I’ve been debating this for a while. I don’t live in Las Vegas, but I’m not too far away and drive in every week or two generally. There is a tri club in Las Vegas. My home town is far too small (and generally too elderly) to have more than a handful of age groupers at best.
So for the last few years, I’ve just kind of been doing this all on my own. I go out and train in whatever way I think will help. Never had a professional bike fit, I just kind of “eyeball” it and make adjustments on the fly. I’ve improved my swim quite a bit just from Youtube videos. Of course, I could swim before but my form was absolute trash. I’m not breaking any records, but my swim has vastly improved in the last couple years. My run is still the suck. Old, crunchy knee joints and a little soggy around the midline certainly don’t help.
But I’m wondering if getting involved in a local club would be worth it. The cost doesn’t seem to be unreasonable and that includes three of their events, plus they put on group training and events.
Right now, I’m leaning pretty heavily to taking the plunge (as it were) and trying it for at least a year. But my biggest concern is just the fact that it’s at least a 50 mile drive any time I attend anything with them.
Do you belong to a club? Have you found it beneficial? Any downside?
