Short cranks on an existing 8-bolt Quarq - Solved

A bit of a PSA here, but I have just managed to swap my Quarq DFour power meter spider onto some 160mm Cranks from Croder. I’m posting this as I didn’t find much when I was searching in way of solutions (and not this) but a fair few questions.

I was really impressed by speed of delivery (less than a week to NZ), quality of finish and packaging (better than Shimano and SRAM). It’s all modular, so in my case I ordered the 160mm cranks and the axle (24mm), not the spider. They do also sell the x-cadey powermeter, but as I said I wanted to keep my Quarq. And it was an easy task to swap, all up about an hour and a half, including adding spacers under my bars, raising the saddle and swapping the bottom bracket.

Still down with flu, but all looked ok in terms of offset calibration and a very easy 2 min spin on the trainer. I will do a check against the Tacx Neo, but quarq says no recalibration of the slope is needed.

I love my quarqs, have 3 of them, and so this was a great solution that avoided needing to buy a new powermeter.

Note that they do a ‘fitter’ version where you have inserts for the pedal axle allowing you to test several crank lengths.

Assuming the quality is good, those are a nicely priced option for those who want/need something shorter than 165.

And first couple of rides down. Have run the data files through DC Analyzer and there is the usual 3w difference between my neo and the quarq. Calibration/offset straight after installation was 112, and now is pretty steady at 98/99.

I did need to tighten the pre-tension ring to get rid of a little lateral play after an hour of riding (the joy of being able to ride a few hours on the trainer after doing mechanical work - another plus compared to the nerve wracking shakedown rides of yester year  )

Quality of these is high by any standard, outstanding for the price.

Oh, one point - the q factor is wider than SRAM - 156mm cf to 145mm. Did notice that more than the shorter cranks (160mm from 172.5mm). I will be moving the cleats a bit as I am feeling it on my (left) adductor.
