Shops with good tt bike mechanics in Houston

Hi all,

I’m looking for a shop to go in and get a routine tune up done on my precious Cervelo. Anyone have any recommendations? Never been a huge fan of the Bike Barn, but don’t mind going there if its the best option. I’m based in NW.

Thanks.

I’m on the NW side of town too.

Your choices on our side of town are Bike Barn, Tru Tri Sports, Lone Star Bicycles, and Northwest Cyclery. Of course, none of them are Cervelo dealers but a bike is a bike so odds are there shouldn’t be any nuances they can’t figure out.

The mechanic at Bike Barn-Cypress is pretty darn good. I’m not a huge fan of the Barn but he really does a good job. I think his name is Jim. I do most of my own wrenching but have brought it to him a couple of times for issues with my Trek Speed Concept that were beyond my wrenching skills. I used to bring my bike to Lone Star but haven’t since the former manager (Josh) left.

I personally know most of the Tru Tri staff and owners but I’ve never had my bike there for service so I can’t vouch for them in that regard. I’m sure they do a fine job.

I think Bicycle World of Houston is the only big Cervelo dealer in town if you want to stick with a Cervelo dealer.

Cervelo S5 all blacked out?

Bike Lane in The Woodlands is a Cervelo dealer. Geat mechanics but they are pretty busy so if you’re not a regular you’ll have to leave it and come back another day. Fortunately for me I get immediate service.

Thanks everyone. I’ll give your friend at Cypress Bike Barn a shot first as that’s pretty close to me.

And no, not a blacked out S5. Why, you seen one around?

Haha, yeah. Shortly before you created this post I was driving around in the NW area and was behind a guy with one on his bike rack.

Call Tony at 713 518 5549.

And what will happen when I do?

Good wrench.

.

Good wrench. He might have a nice tool, but how well can he use it?

+1 for Bike Lane in The Woodlands - I-45N feeder just south of HW 242 - just beyond Chuys. Don’t confuse this with Bike Land which is about 1 mile south at Research Forest and I-45.

Hi guys,

Just an update on this. As per my other thread (http://forum.slowtwitch.com/cgi-bin/gforum.cgi?post=4410051;search_string=mcgrady;#4410051), my frame is damaged and I need a shop who can take ownership of my project, help me either repair my frame or pursue a crash replacement frame and strip & rebuild my bike.

Do we still like the Bike Lane as the best option? What about Bicycle World or Bicycle World & Fitness which are closer to downtown?

Thanks a lot.

Consider Tri on the Run on Memorial Drive. They get great reviews in addition to my great experience there (though this was probably a year ago). FIST fitters and I think they may deal with Cervelo.

Called Tri on the Run and they are not Cervelo dealers.

Talk to Ken at Bike Lane. They can help ya.

Thanks will do!

Great customer service and repair work.
I also live in the Houston area. Calfee did a wonderful job repairing the cracked B-stay on my Colnago roadie a few years ago.

While I shop a fair amount at BW on Memorial due to location. I haven’t had any wrench work done there, But they woudln’t be my first choice.

The sales service is hit or miss with them. We have had more than one bad experience.

For example they recently tried to sell me a Torhans and told me the device tray was for attaching it to the bike. From now on I’ll only buy from them when I know what I want, and don’t want to wait for shipping.

The one in Rice might be better… but I haven’t tried them.

+1 for Bike Lane. Great local shop with people who know what they are doing. As you may have found just because someone is a Mechanic at a “bike shop” doesn’t mean they actually are good at building/servicing bikes.
