Shoes for a half or full. Musha versus. PureCadence versus DS trainer

Over the years I have tried a few different shoes in the last year or so I have tried the sockety Musha for 10k and half Ironman although the shoe is quite minimal and does not have a lot of cushioning. Pure cadence I have worn for a few months but never in a race and it seems to be a nice year but not too much support and somewhat loosefitting lateral movements occur (but not a problem) I have a DS trainer 18 on order and have not use that shoes now for about two or three years. But I am sure this will be an excellent shoe for training and maybe race. I also have the kona Swiss shoe which is four years old and only used a couple of times. That is also little squishy. Am I missing anything

if you want a similar class shoe that’s not as squishy- consider the Mizuno Wave Elixer. It’s faster and firmer than the DS Trainer- but isn’t low drop like the cadence. There’s also the Adzero- but I’ve never run in that- so, no opinion.

I’ve run 2 half marathons and 2 70.3s in pure cadences. After the first 2 races my feet were more sore than normal over a 13.1 distance. However, the last two races have felt great. I’m now training for a marathon and plan to race in the cadences as well.

So, its been my experience that it took some time to get completely 100% comfortable in the shoes. However, as long as you train in them, you should be fine.

Regarding the other poster suggesting mizunos: I recently bought some asics neos, very similar to the mizunos and ds trainers. I thought I would want a bit more shoe in my marathon build. However, after running for 2 years in the low drop cadences, I found the higher asics to be uncomfortable when I ran in them.

Hope this helps.

I also have some asix speed stars at my store that came in and I have used them but they are a very cheap shoe and I have not used them very much except for some short quick tempo runs. Looks like they would fall apart After a short time. It will be interesting to see how much the DS trainers have changed in to or three years also. The peer cadence is very comfortable but maybe too squishy but I have not running them more than 10 miles so they could be okay. I also have some DS racers from a couple years ago that I have not worn very much but the toebox is so incredibly narrow it’s not funny

ive also found the toe box on asics to feel narrow. i hadnt noticed it in the past, but again, after using pure cadences with the wide, comfortable toe box, its hard for me to go back.

thought the cadence might be lil non supportive because of the material on the sides, hence lots of side to side movement
.

I really like the Musha and have been tempted to run a marathon in them but haven’t. I have done a few 15 mile runs without issue but usually around 18 is where I wish I had more cushioning.

I tried the Cadence at the running store and it felt too soft for me. I ran my last marathon in the Elixir which I like but felt it was a little more cushion than I need.

I’ve got a week and about 35 miles on the Wave Sayonara and I think it may be the compromise I need as it is a little lighter than the Elixir and a bit more cushion than the Musha. I am disappointed that the Musha is being cut even though they aren’t my go to shoe.

I have been racing half IMs on the Mushas for the past 3 years and they are great. I have flat feet, but they don’t bother me (knock on wood) and I really only do my easy runs or LSD runs on shoes that have more support which are the Mizuno Wave Riders for me.
However, I can’t run in the Mushas barefoot as I have gotten some pretty nasty blisters but spend the 5 secs to put on socks, and they are great.
Having said that, everybody’s feet are different and what works for me may not work for you. Try it out in a tune up race, took me a few different brands and Half IMs to find the perfect shoe.

A lot of people will use the Ronins to replace the Mushas on longer distances. It’s technically a stability shoe but it’s as "light a stability"as they come. Compliments the Musha nicely.
The shoe tree for me with Mizuno was always Universe>Musha>Ronin.
There’s also Mizunos 0 drop line. … but that won’t work for everyone.
