Shiv Di2 owners -junction box placement?

Where do you guys put the junction box up by the stem? Mine looks like a rats nest and I don’t have a good place to put it.

One option is to use tririg’s stem/bars. I’d like to do that someday but I already have the standard shiv stem/bars.

Pics are appreciated!

Have you considered running it inside the downtube? A longer set of e-wires will let you route the brake levers and extensions into the entry port where they can connect to the box and then onto JC41.

So do the wires go through my bladder port?

I think my wires are long enough now, there’s a bunch of extra on them.

I would totally put it in the down tube! :).

Any pics? I’m kinda dumb at this stuff so detailed explanation is appreciated.

Sorry no pix, the only Shiv I have here is in pieces. Take the wire that runs from your junction A box to the junction B inside the frame, the route that wire follows is the same path than the other 3 would take from your shifters assuming you’re running the Di2 STI brake levers.

So would the junction box that’s up by the stem live down by the bottom bracket? I see tube that routes the wire, but I don’t see a way to access what’s in that tube. I’m guessing it goes all the way down to the bottom bracket for the rear break/derailer.

You don’t need to run it all the way down into the bottom of the downtube. After you pull out the fork you can just tape it to the inside of the bottom of the downtube at the head tube.

oh cool. I think I get it. I bet there’s an opening in there that I can’t see through the bladder hole.

So I’ll take off the fork, and that opening should be apparent. I’ll thread my cables in there, and tape my junction box some where up there and just hope I never have to trim anything :).

I velcro my box behind my garmin, on the stem. will try and get you a pic when I can. it’s pretty neat but to be honest I’m disappointed that specialized didn’t come up with a slick solution for this (should have been easy for them)

Mine is straped nice and neat on top of the srem. Frazier bike who did the build on my S Works shiv did everythng right and the bike looks amazing.

Hey Nate,

Check these out. Mine sits under the base bar on the right side of the stem(used velcro). I taped the wires down to the under side of the base bar as well.

if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

First off, I love how there’s a different Specialized S-works Shiv TT in the background of each picture :).

I have the new e-tube system and have shifters at the breaks and bar ends. It’s awesome but I have a bit of wire to deal with :).

As someone else said, could I put this through the cable routing and tape it it on the inside of my down tube (by taking off the fork)?

I might go below the base bar like you have, but I would really really like to hide the junction box since everything else is so aero on this beast :).

edit: Yes I have crazy stack. I’m 6’6 and my seat post is super high. I think I could use an XXL shiv but specialized doesn’t make one. I’m working on getting lower…

Here’s mine.
No stack to help hide so cables routed as best as poss.

Shame the bars weren’t fully internal cable routed

so one of the things i’ve done with the new 9070 is feed that little elastic strap through the hole in the shim of the stem. then i’ve taped down wires underneath the base bar.

i’ve tried to show it here but it is difficult without a head on shot (which i can’t get at this moment in time).

I know exactly what you’re saying. I’ll try that tonight.

Hey Nate,

did this work?

sure did! Doesn’t look super pretty because of the amount of stack I have but it’s still a big improvement.

Thanks!

Superdave,

Wondering if you were successful in running the Junction box internal on a shiv. I’d like to do it now. Just wondering how you got around the plastic tubes that guide the cables.

thanks,
Cavin

Run longer wires and put the junction A inside the frame by pulling the fork out and taping it to the inner surface of the frame.

When you pull off the fork there is a tube that runs within the frame of the bike for the cables that enter via the top tube. are you saying to cut this tube and route the wires through the opening that you’d create?
