Anyone here done it? Trying to get an accurate idea of cost to ship two wheels (in one box) from Van to Toronto - quotes are all over the map. Tips for keeping cost down?
Thanks.
I used Canada Post, seemed to be the cheapest option. Problem with wheels isn’t weight but the dimensions, you might find two smaller boxes with one wheel each to be cheaper than one bigger box.
100% Canada Post. We get srewed by the other shipping companies.
Definetely cheapest as well.
Should be $50-$75 which isn’t that bad IMO
.
Thanks. Is there a standard “wheel box” that bike stores would give me, or do I have to do something custom?
Check Greyhound as well. I haven’t used them for some time but shipped some larger objects with them in the past.
LBS should have something or buy a box from Canada Post.
I actually just shipped a set of wheels from Burnaby to Toronto through FedEx for $54. Before going with FedEx I talked to someone at a UPS store who told me that he could order a custom box for the wheels but I ended up using a box that was a bit bigger than it needed to be… FedEx had better prices than Canada Post if you wanted to add insurance.
I received a front wheel that was shipped from Calgary to Toronto a few weeks ago and it was shipped via Canadapost. The cost was $35
You might also try shipbikes or bikeflights. I believe one of them ships within Canada. They basically use one of the big couriers but get bulk discounts and pass on some of the savings.
