Shingles help

Who has had it? What can I expect? Currently it’s a rash on my butt and it hurts to sit. Oh and it hurts when I stand.

Belly and chest for me— lots of calamine lotion and patience.

From a couple friends’ experience, a fair amount of pain and discomfort for a period ranging from weeks to months. Not fun and sorry you’re going through this. Have you had any Shingles vaccinations (eg. Shingrix)?

I know a guy in Canada who had good luck covering bad shingles with a blue tarp…

I have not had the vaccine. I am 49. Typically here they tell you to get it when you are 50.

Seems like I’ll be getting the vaccine when this is over though.

I got it at 50 after having a friend spending 6 months trying to not lose his eye from shingles on his face. Vaccine kicks your ass for a day but seems better than shingles. Hope your case is mild and passes quickly!

I’ve heard it’s awful, my good friend just had it on his forehead of all places. I think it was a weeks long thing for him.

No advice but lots of sympathy. Hope you heal up soon.

Sure. That rash on your butt is from shingles. What have you been doing out in the woods on your “camping” trips?

D’Wife had it last year; it was terrible

First there were rashes, but then came excruciating joint pain in her knees & ankles - so much so that she couldn’t walk

Zero :star: - would not recommend

Fuck dude, if it wasn’t for bad luck, you’d have no luck at all.

My FIL got it in his shoulder and it lasted for months. To be on the safe side, my wife just got her second dose of the vaccine. Maybe I should consider it, too.

That was pretty much it for me. The pain wasn’t extreme, but it was enough and it was constant and unrelenting. It was mostly a matter of finding distractions, like lotion or a burning hot bath or shower, loud music, and meditation. I think I may have had it easy though.

Few meds:

  • Lyrica (more purified than Gabapentin
  • Pain patches - they have prescription strength ones 5%
  • perhaps even (hard to get) doxepin cream

Best of luck
To keep this political, assume our our HHS will try to stop the vaccine…

I had it in my late 30’s.

Godawful combination of pain and itching. I got some cream. Offered me painkillers which I don’t recall taking but may have at some point. It SUCKED

Pretty sure after this you don’t need the vaccine

Or you can only get shingles once

I’m just messing around. It sounds awful.

Dr told me that I should get it.
