Would there be any advantages to change my Ultegra crankset for the Dura Ace crankset?
A few grams of weight and a bit stiffer.
It has less flex than any crankset that they have produced. However…you will not notice a difference until you go over 500 watts. It is lighter …though.
Unless it resolves a drivetrain problem I would spend that major jingle somewhere that you get a benefit that’s tangible…toward wheels, coaching, powertap, new chamois, massages, new sunglasses…you know what you need.
Thanks for all the replys.
I already have race wheels. I am getting a disc cover for the rear 9.0 Aeolus rear wheel. Ordered a new helmet and went to the LOOK Keo blades.
I guess a powertap will probably be the next major investment. I was curious about the crankset. It’s on 30grams lighter, so I was wondering if there was something I was missing for the huge difference in price.
Heya Speed, previous post was 7800 vs 7900, noticed you wanted a comparison between 6700 and 7900. Went to edit the post and then got busy. Basically main difference apart from the small weight difference is increased stiffness of the 7900 (around 30%) of which you would have to be putting out insane power to tell the difference.
Cheers
You’re a man of few words!!
I thought it was 790 versus 725 grams - that would be 65 grams.
I’ll take your word for it. I was told 30 grams at the Trek store. That’s still only a hair over 2 ounces. 400.00 difference in price is crazy for that little of weight savings.
agreed on the price for the weight reduction. You can often snap up dura-ace cranks though for $300 if you are patient on ebay.
Well I certainly appreciate your input and ideas. Thanks a lot!
Speedracer1,
I will have a set of 172.5 DA 7900 cranks for sale as soon as my Speed Concept Project One comes in. If you want to wait 30-45 days, I’ll sell them to you for a good price. They will be a brand new take-off.
Awesome! PM me!!
