Shimano/Sram 12 speed cassettes

Have anyone tried to match the Sram Force/Red AXS with the use of Shimano 12sp cassettes? My wheels will fit Shimano/Sram 11sp. So this is to avoid the need of rebuilding the hubs.

Rebuilding? Swapping a freehub takes about 5 minutes.

Some people have started to mix groups and claim it’s ok in some cases, but chain roller diameters are different so it can’t be ideal.

Thanks. The problem isn’t rebuilding/swapping, the main problem is that I have searched the internet-shops and ebay for 3 months, and there aren’t any parts availible…

Supposedly SRAM 12sp cassettes work quite well on Shimano. Have not heard of anyone trying the reverse. Rotor also makes 12sp cassettes that work with micro spline wheels.

Leonard Zinn has a series of technical articles posted on Velonews that covers this issue, concluding that the answer is no due to different roller diameters used in AXS, at least no in terms of acceptable operation. I don’t see a compelling argument for the flat top chain design, at least in terms of practical consumer use.

If your wheels will accept an 11sp Shimano road cassette, they will also accept a 12sp Shimano road cassette.

Thanks everyone. I forgot to say that I don’t care too much about don’t get to use the flat-top chain! So that won’t be an issue. If I have understood it right, I can use a Shimano 12 sp cassette with Sram rear derailleur.
I am running 1x DUB 12 sp. crankset with 50t chainset.

Did you end up doing this?

I learnt on this forum about the differences between Sram AXS and Shimano 12 speed. The Sram chain as mentioned has larger diameter rollers so as I found you can run the derailleurs (a shimano chain will sit in the jockey wheels fine) but you need to match the chainrings, cassette and chain to one or the other. I luckily had done that using existing set up and put an Edco cassette on my wheels.

You missed out if chasing a cassette as on the 4th they had 25% off and free postage I got two 11-29 12 speed cassettes for $300 but they do have stock.

I contacted Edco and they are phasing out the 11-29 but are introducing a 11-28 that has a straight block run from11-19 that has me excited.
