Shimano Parts - missing bolt

My Ultegra front derailleur just lost a bolt and does not work. The offending bolt appears to me a mysterious one because Shimano does not show it in their schematic. I would much prefer not to buy a new derailleur because of one bolt. For you that know more about bike parts than me, it is the bolt that that goes through the spring loaded piece. I think it is a non-threaded bolt with a locking cap? I went to my LBS and they could not find what I needed. Any suggestions?

If this is 9 speed…I will dontate at a miniumum the part to you via TSR - I have brand new Ultegra 9 speed Rear Ders…one short, one long cage…

Oops…front Der…triple or no? I have those too…can you get a picture of the offending bolt? Is it a limit screw?

call shimano in calif. and i suspect they will try to help you ID and replace said bolt:

tel 949-951-5003, then 2, then 1 for bike tech support

I don’t know if it is the limiting screw… It is the bolt that goes through the spring loaded piece that can be adjusted by the small screws on top. I will try the Shimano help line. If no luck, then i will post a photo in the morning. Thanks for the help.

That bolt is a flaw on the Ultegra 9 derailleur. As a wrench, I made a habit of ALWAYS checking the bolt regardless of why the bike needs repair. And guess what - it’s always loose. I suggest making a habit of checking it monthly - a 1/2 turn is better than ruining a ride or worse a race. Shimano does sell replacement parts - I don’t know if it’s as simple as replacing it or if the spring is impossible to set up again…

Post your findings.

All right the frustration continues. Shimano’s rep told me that is a machined in pin with a threaded end and it is not one they sell as a replacement part. Very frustrating. The only option is to find an old Ultegra derailleur and get the bolt from there. BTW it is a double, not triple. The spring loaded piece is fine, I just need the bolt that goes through it. FOr clarification, it is the bolt directly under the limiting screws. The Shimano guy said since they dont sell it as a part, it does not have a name.

can you post a photo of the hole where the missing bolt was supposed to be?

I don’t have a digital camera at work. Here is a picture of a derailluer and the bolt that is missing on mine is the one in the middle of the picture and the middle of the derailluer. My LBS told me it is a pin with a threaded end and the threads are 4.5mm. They had nothing to help, except a new derailluer. Thanks Lee
