I find it interesting there is no mention of Di2. When Shimano seems to be investing a lot into electronic shifting, you would think that a new top-end product would also include electronic options right off the bat.
ugh I was hoping this wouldn’t happen.
thinner cassette and chains, faster wear, more standards to deal with.
Direct mount Caliper brake… I wonder what that is? Betting mechanical disk.
I like the 52/36 crankset. Surprised to see Hollowtech II as the crank standard, I figured they would adopt a new large diameter crank spindle. Shimano does not adopt other company’s standards (ex. they never made a road threadless headset) but figured the next version on the crankset to be Hollowtech 3 or something like that.
yeah I need to get some 52/36 rings for my current crankset on my road bike. does shimano make any currently? I know fsa does
I’ve got FSA and Specialized rings in 52/36 of two different bikes- “mid compact” is the term I have heard used for this crankset.
The FSA 52 ring is labeled as 52/38 so it is not optimized for a 36, but it works. The Specialized are a paired set, but I can’t tell a difference between the performance of the FSA and the Specialized, the Specialized were 2x the price of the FSA. I don’t notice the difference between a 53 and 52 big ring, but appreciate the three fewer teeth on the little ring on some the climbs- especially the 5 mile one back up to my house at the end of every long ride. With a 12-25 rear cogset, the 52/36 up front allows a tighter range rear cogset (and a 16 tooth cog) to make for smaller jumps between gears compared to a 11-25 and 50/34 or 12/27 and 53/39 with a similar range.
yeah it is a perfect combo imho. in bike races you do sometimes run out with a 50x11, i mean ive never been unable to keep up but my cadence gets so high I’m wasting some energy (I think)

SRAM Red lists both a 52/38 and 52/36. I swapped my 34 for a 36. Although not optimal, it works fine. When combined with an 11x21, I only have one 2 tooth jump. As a BOP Cat 4 and only marginallly better 50+, I do top out a bit with the 50x11 when the speeds are over 35, but that’s not often, and I had trouble pushing a 53x11.
I had to ditch my 7900 crank, it was a 50/34 and couldn’t take larger rings. I went to an FSA 52/36.

you could have put the fsa rings on the dura ace crank.
pretty sure
so much for “confindential”
.
Not “CONFIDENTIAL” any more I guess.
It is as best as I can read labeled as “FIDENTIA” Not sure what that means.

You could fit them on the 7900, but it would look like this:
heh, indeed.
The ‘best’ aftermarket rings that I have used, and the biggest selection, are made by Stronglight. It’s tough to find them in the US, but I ordered a couple of sets from Chain Reaction I think in the UK. They are nice rings and come in a huge selection of teeth ##s.
SM-BB92-41B = BB30? PF30?

BB92 is Shimano’s MTB press fit bb system no?
What on earth is the point of having an 11 speed 11-23 cassette?

guarantee in time there will be people insisting they can’t cycle effectively without that close of a gear set choice to work with.
