Shimano calipers with SRAM levers

Does anyone have experience running Shimano brake calipers with SRAM levers (etap levers specifically). I know the pull ratios are different, but how much does that actually effect performance? I have a few stripped threads on my current set of Red calipers and am going to replace. From everything I read the DA calipers are the best going, without getting something like an EE cycleworks. Just exploring all options…

I run SRAM (non ETAP) levers on my roadie with Ultegra calipers and it works just fine. I haven’t noticed any real difference. Shift cable pull ratios are definitely different, but brakes should be alright.

I have Dura Ace calipers and cranks (9000 series) and just replaced the shifters and derailleurs with eTap. Only have one 40 mile ride on it so far, but everything seems to be working fine. I noticed a very slight difference in the feel of the brakes. I’m not sure I would have noticed it if I wasn’t specifically looking for it. A friend had insisted that the brakes wouldn’t work well with the eTap levers so I was particularly focused on it.

DA SLR-EV brakes use a higher leverage pull ratio than SRAM/Campy, so the interaction of the pull ratios makes the brakes “mushy” in comparison to a consistent set of components. You’re better off getting new Red brakes, despite how much I love 9000 (and 9100).

Thanks everyone for the input…still undecided. My biggest turn off with the Red brakes is setting them up is kinda a PITA. Especially with my S5 that has that bracket you mount the brake to then screw into the frame. If you don’t have it lined up correctly, you have to take it off, adjust, remount, repeat etc.
