Can somebody explain the purpose of the BBR60 bottom bracket, other than to create a new “standard” and make me buy a new tool that is slightly smaller than the perfectly good tool I already have, and keep me off my bike for an extra week? Same internal diameter, same spacing as Hollowtech II… what is the fecking point?
That is the only way they were able to save weight on the new gen of parts compared to the previous generation. I used it before and it is perfectly fine. With a new one Shimano includes an plastic apdater tool to use with the larger sized Shimano BB tool. Works perfectly fine. If you bought a used on and the seller didn’t include that adapter then I’d be upset with that person.
The pricing Shimano sets on these has lowered where you can buy one at a LBS for under $15 or so. I’ve found it is better to get one in person unless I need to buy other things to make shipping worth it.
Sucks that you didn’t get the adapter tool. When I included one of these BBR60 with a crankset I sold I included the plastic adapter for the new owner. Just the right thing to do since it came with the BB.
The plastic adaptor may well be OK for initial fitting, but usually it is not strong enough to remove a worn out one.
And just to make you hate Shimano more, the Ultegra and durace versions are different to each other, so we all had to buy 2 new tools…
