Actually I epilate (spelling?), in other words, yank the hairs out with a machine (spreads the pain out a bit over time, compared to wax) … seriously.

Shave, and shave often. You will keep the stubble to a minimum, and will get efficient with the practice, so it won’t take as long.
Nair but it smells a bit.
being a relative newbie, i asked around a lot and came up with a pretty good system. they actually make some scented nair now that doesn’t smell THAT bad. after the nair (initial session only, so don’t buy a huge bottle*), grab a mach 3 razor and some conditioner (works better than any shave gel i’ve tried) and hop in the shower. remove any hairs that are left and be careful around the knees and achilles area. after that, the maintenance gets pretty easy–it all depends on how often you want to do it.
*make sure you have plenty of towels around when using the nair. the bottle also says leave it on for 5min or so, but i went 15-20 w/out any problems.
During championship season (swimming) when I was growing up, it was a kinda team building thing to “nair-up” for the initial exfoliation. Razors were used for clean-up afterwards.
