I use Inside Ride Emotion rollers, Wahoo cadence sensor, and PowerTap powermeter. I have to make resistance by feel by shifting gears on the climbs but I love the realistic feel of riding rollers instead of a trainer.
Mounted on the wall beside the screens is an Alienware Alpha I7 with 64 gig memory, a 256 gig SSD boot drive, a 2tb hard drive, and a GTX 1080 video card.
Holy mackerel. Please tell me you are doing much higher end stuff than Zwift. I thought my 9570 was overkill…
LOL. No. In fact it is running Rouvy right now, I got tired of Zwift. When I bought it I wanted it to by upgrade proof for a few years in case someone went to 3D VR with their training software. Now that would be cool.
Started indoor training 35 years ago next month with a wind trainer (remember those?); a 13" inch TV and a turn table for music (I do miss the mandatory short break every 20 minutes to flip sides). Things have progressed since then. Current set up:
Basics:
42" TV (bigger would be better but this one was free)Kickr Core trainerLasko blower fan in frontBox fan on sidewireless remote plugs for fansMusic - Pandora or iTunes on iPhoneBluetooth earbuds Treadmill - not used much for running but perfectly placed for holding towel, water bottles and remotes while on the bike
Zwift
Apple TVCABLE to get extra devices paired
Trainer Road
iPhone app handlebar mount for iPhoneCABLE to pair ANT+ power meter for power matchEntertainment on TV through Apple TV YouTube NBC Gold Netflix Amazon Prime
I also have a weight bar for dead lifts; TRX straps and a mat for other strength work.

That thing might outspec our new 3D VR simulator on campus. You don’t fool around! I absolutely couldn’t imagine wearing those goggles on the trainer. Count me out for VR bike riding.
A few yrs ago, I moved into a house that had a Full Swing golf simulator room that proceeded to sit unused for ~3 yrs. Then my wife said “why are you using Zwift on that little 42” TV when you could convert that stupid Golf Simulator into a Zwift Room"? I put down rubber flooring and added an eBay purchased PC attached to the projector onto a 180" screen and upgraded to “smart” e-Motion Rollers (after this pic was taken). Life sized Zwift is completely immersive now!
That’s super cool! I have my ceiling out right now and want to re-do the floors before I start posting any pictures. Certainly no projector and screen set-up for me quite yet.
I generally dislike the trainer, and while we have good weather here all year, work and earlier sunsets are starting to kill my weekday riding.
So my general setup is.
2nd road bike that sits on a KK fluid trainer with a PT wheel.
Interlocking foam mat, I think it’s 6’x4’ wide
This trainer table…which is far cheaper than the Wahoo version and works well.
I have a USB power strip zip tied to the back of the table which provides power to my MacBook Pro (lightning) as well as my phone, iPad, and small BT speaker that all sit on the table.
I keep Zwift running on the laptop, and if I’m not racing, I’ll have the ipad in front of it using the slot stand and stream some type of video content and use the BT speaker for better audio quality.
I have this set up right next to my A/C, and use a Lasko fan in addition to that.
My cave below… The big old Ridley is mine, the smaller (but still pretty large) Trek on the normal trainer my wife’s, out of frame is the landlord’s old CBR600, and behind is a rack of six or seven bikes owned by us, the landlord, his wife… and the other commuter bikes in the kitchen!
I am pretty certain that my set up wouldn’t win any awards!
I put the trainer in the spare bedroom, but the walls and floors are thin in our building and the downstairs neighbours complained immediately. So I moved down to the cellar.
I have a 3x5m cellar compartment, so have my Wahoo Kickr Snap, in front of a laptop table and my wind machine down there.
I take a bluetooth speaker so I can actually hear anything from my laptop, or my phone if I listen to a podcast or music.
Here is my budget set up: Old school steel Bianchi with downtube shifters on a Magneto dumb trainer with Wahoo Blue speed/cadence sensor.
I found an old adjustable desk at the local thrift store for $15 that I have MY 23" TV on. The TV is hooked with an HDMI cable to my iPhone. Cheap floor fan off to the side. The whole set up sits on a nice thick rubber mat that came with my treadmill.
When I Zwift on the treadmill I just roll the desk over and I’m good to go.
O used to dread Trainerroad, I actually look forward to Zwift.
