SEROTTA: Ottrott, CXIIti, HSGtri

Any thoughts between these Serotta frames? Ottrott in tri-geometry CXII ti HSG tri
I was decided on the Ottrott in trigeometry, but now considering the other two…humm…

As the Serotta boys aren’t much into tri’s, I nver reckon their machines are real triathlon bikes.

My sense is they don’t build a real tri-a machine, they;re just slapping the Slowman’s angle on road gear.

NOthing wrong with that,. but the Serotta isn’t a tri-a marque. Likely never will be. Now you want to banter roady bikes, well—

Probably at least as good as the person doing the fitting.

Or a good as your custom geometry.

Seriously though, I see no reason why Serotta can’t make a decent, well-fitting Tri bike. It may not have the pedigree of Cervelo let’s say, but with a properly fitted geometry, I’m sure they could bang out a Ti speed machine.

That’s what I meant. The geometry is a product (partially) of the fitting.

yeah, I meant to respond to the post above you. I can see what you’re saying.

I agree that the bike is only as good as the specs your fitter provides to Serotta. That said, I love my CX II CS (steel; is there a ti one or is that a typo?). Tim Troha of Colorado Multisport in Boulder did a great job on the fit. I love the bike, which fits perfectly and rides beautifully. Admittedly, not very aerodynamic, but I am a Clyde and the frame tubes are the least of my problems aerodynamically speaking. Most importantly, I can stay in the aerobars for 111 1/2 of a 112 mile ride (and have). I get off the bike feeling better than w/any other bike I have ridden. Plus, at approximately $1700 for the frame, it is a deal relative to other custom options. Highly recommended.

campagfan,

I doubt that you could win that argument with Paul Levine or Chris Kautz.

CXII ti
• Built from seamless high performance Serotta Aero Titanium tubing that’s processed right here in our facility
• Ride performance is crisp yet smooth
• Extended seat tube mast option
• TRI & TT specific sizings drive the forward thinking geometry for optimal aero position to maximize power output.

there is atleast one pro that got his ticket riding a Levine set up ottrott-

My call is do the ottrott lot of cash but it is the sweet nectar of the cycling gods.

Hi Clarence,

Serotta is putting the final touches on the CXII Ti, which I’ve been lucky enough to help with some of the design aspects on. I’ve had some good conversations with Ben Serotta and Jason Clark, the head of R and D at Serotta, over the last few weeks on the progress and testing, and I should be getting mine shortly to do some final test riding on for Serotta.

FYI, I’m riding an Ottrott ST road bike right now, so I’d be happy to give you some feedback on the differences between them once I log some miles on the tri bike (I have also put a fair number of miles in on an Ottrott tri bike in the past, too).

The CXII Ti and HSG tri will be very similar bike. The HSG version will be a stock geometry form with a less extended seat mast, and as I understand it, a CS (non-pivoting) rear stay, whereas the pivoting ST stay will be available on the custom version.

Hope this helps,
Christopher
