Sergio Escutia (and Hector), a little calendar help?

I’d like to add Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean to our calendar. I’m thinking this:

Baja California Norte, as well as Sonora, get added to the WEST region.

Chihuahua gets added to ROCKIES region.

Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Tamaluipas gets added to MID SOUTH region.

Then the rest of Mexico, with baja california sur, along with Central America and the Caribbean Islands that belong to Central American countries (like that race on San Andreas Island) becomes a new region called CENTRAL AMERICA, and we’ll create “states” for that region that correspond to every state in which there is a race (probably jalisco, queretaro, oaxaca, maybe michoacan, quintana roo). these would be “people’s” races. i don’t see why we need a race on the calendar people can’t enter, like an ITU race in cancun, unless there’s a people’s race attached to it.

Then the rest of the caribbean gets lumped into a “state” called CARIBBEAN and we attack it to the Deep South region. this, because races such as st. kitts and st. croix are really probably mostly populated by athletes who live in florida.

is this sensible? and specifically for you, sergio, can you tackle uploading (in english) the races that make up the mexican triathlon series? (with full acknowledgement that those races are not “set” on the calendar until about two weeks before they go off). and hector in guatemala, are you really in guatemala? if so, can you upload any central american races? if there are any

Dan,
I’m not Sergio, but I grew up in Mexico. I agree with your groupings, but maybe you can consider lumping BCS with BCN and Sonora in the same region.

I will gladly help.

I have not checked the uploading process, but I guess it will be no problem doing it in English.

The Press Director of the Mexican Triathlon Federation is a good friend of mine, I am sure that he will gladly upload all the races.

I will keep in touch regarding this.

Thanks,

Sergio

I will start working on Central America, there are several in Guatemala and Costa Rica has decent races - I mean we are normally not part of North America since we are Central - but hey if this calendar keeps growing there is no reason why it couldn’t extend all the way down to tierra del fuego.

Oh and no, while I’d love to be in my home country of Guatemala I’m actually in brutally cold Minneapolis.

Dan, I just spoke with the Press Director of the Mexican Triathlon Federation. He is going to check out tonight the Calendar.

I am sure that the dates of the events will be there soon.

IMO if you are going to leave the areas as they are now, in the WEST region we should have: Baja California (the people from Tijuana will kill me if I add “Norte” ), Baja California Sur, Sonora and Sinaloa.

It would be much easier to locate a race in Mexico if you add all of them in “MEXICO”. Most participants travel by plane anyways.

The Calendar is a great idea, I am glad it is part of ST now.

Sergio

“It would be much easier to locate a race in Mexico if you add all of them in “MEXICO”.”

i’m thinking now of races in ensenada, san felipe (baja california) and puerto penasco (rocky point triathlon). these are all in mexico, but i don’t remember hardly any mexicans doing them. these are pretty much american races. that’s why i thought placing baja california and sonora in the west region made more sense.

but if you think these are races mexicans might be interested in, i’ll stick them all in mexico.

You are right. The races you mention are practically unknown to most of the dedicated mexicans triathletes that race the National Circuit.

I was thinking that people interested in doing a triathlon in Mexico (from the USA and Canada also) would find the races easier to find under the “Mexico” file.

I have gotten many PMs from USA triathletes that want to know if they could race and then spend a few days with the family or girlfriend in Cancun, Vallarta, Ixtapa, Mazatlan, etc. I end up most of the time cutting and pasting in the message the calendar of the Mexican triathlon circuit.

Something else I should mention is that we have every year several ITU events (some World Championships) in Mexico. These are most of the time held concurrently to an AG triathlon the day before or even the same day. Usually these AG events are very well organized and they are raced in the same venue as the Pro event.

For example they are arranging in Mazatlan for a kids triathlon to take place the 18th of April and an AG Sprint and Olympic distance triathlon on the 19th, the same day that the ITU/PATCO Panamerican Junior Championship triathlon race will take place. You are assured a very nice venue and organization as an AGer as this is an important triathlon.

The events of the Mexican Circuit are most of the time very well organized, particularly the ones by asdeporte.com . Not at all like some that have been organized at times close to the USA Border.

Hope this helps,

Sergio

Dan - can you just add a Central America tab? I think that will be easiest - if someday CA has 200 races then we can expand into Guate/Beli/Salva/etc… but for now I think Central America would be good enough…

slowman, are you waiting to add Mexico and Central America later on? or did I miss something? I already told some MN race directors to get on the calendar, if they don’t follow up Ill post some next week.
