For all you Ebayers out there in Slowtwitch land, I have a quick question. I sold my daughter’s bike and the buyer paid using a credit card through PayPal. She is having the bike shipped to a different person, with an unconfirmed address, so I have no protection from Ebay/PayPal. What can I do to protect myself from someone charging back the bike on their credit card, saying they never received it? I plan on shipping the bike UPS and requiring a signature. Thanks for your help!
Well, hindsight’s 20/20, but you should’ve put in the terms that you’d only ship to a confirmed address. I don’t know if you can get away with telling her that now. Also, get the $$ out of your PayPal account NOW. Transfer it, have a check sent, whatever. And if you’re REALLY worried about it, close your PayPal account (or at least change your banking info). Does this person have any feedback? Positive/Negative. If over 20 transactions…I’d say you are in “safe” territory.

I’m confused on the address. Was her address unconfirmed or this different person? Was is unconfirmed or a totally different address?
Perhaps you should ask for a destination phone number and call the person to confirm. Basically…FedEx or UPS will have record of the address (FedEx is more likely to give it to you) and you can confirm.
BTW - FedEx will be cheaper to send the bike…by around 20%.
you need to find the reason for trying to send to an unconfirmed address. I often have my stuff sent to an unconfirmed address (work) because my confirmed address is my home. Sometimes its easier and safer to have it sent to work. my .02
The unconfirmed address wouldn’t bother me much, but shipping to a different person is another matter.
I would find out why. If they are in the same town, maybe you should just insist on the confirmed address.
Also, contact the buyer. Those that can speak, read and write the English language are probably good bets.
A little more info, feedback(13) 100%. The sender is verified through PayPal. She is shipping to someone other than herself, address unconfirmed. I don’t know if it is in the same city because no address was given for the buyer, just the shipping address. She, as well as several others, contacted me about a Buy it Now option. She offered me $50 - $100 less than I eventually listed as my Buy it Now price. I decided to add Buy it Now because I will be away over the weekend, St. Anthony’s, so I won’t be available to answer questions and I got 11 questions in the first 24 hours of the auction! The bike was purchased within an hour of adding BIN, before I even had a chance to email her telling her I had added BIN. Thanks again for your help.
I emailed the buyer and she said that they have had some problems in her neighborhood with packages, so she wants to ship it to her boyfriend at work. I emailed her back and asked for a phone number. Anything else I should do? Thanks, next time I will put shipping to confirmed address only in the listing!
I think you’ll be fine…just get the phone number and keep records of all your correspondance with her.
