Selle Italia T1 saddle review

In the endless search for the least painful saddle I have tried the Azoto, SLR, Arione and now the SLR T1. The SLR and the Arione were unbearable after 3 hours. The Azoto was the best I had tried so far. My only complaint about it was the dam scoop in the back of it which made me slide into the nose everytime I pushed back therefore forcing more pressure in sensitive areas even with it’s huge fat gel nose. So I slapped the T1 on my bike back in June as I ramped up the miles for IM Canada. The best thing about this saddle is that it is as flat as the regular SLR but with the nose of the Azoto. So now you have a saddle where I can sit in the rear or in the nose just the same without anything pushing me forward. The nose is as wide as the Azoto but it’s all leather and yes it slightly rubs the inside of my thighs, not a problem when wearing shorts but if you are one of the 15 triathletes out there that still rides in Speedo’s than its going to rub you raw.

The bottom line is this saddle allowed me to do IM Canada with tri shorts instead of cycling shorts and a QR seat cover, which fits very easy over it. In addition to that I did 2-3, 6+ hour rides with bike shorts and no cover in prep for Canada. I wasn’t pain free at the end but it was certainly tolerable. After 10 years of riding I believe pain free is not possible with any saddle. I have noticed that the leather on the nose is starting to peel slightly, so I don’t know if this is going to affect the durability of the saddle.

IOW, the best tri saddle I have had until now.

My .02 cents.

P.S. - I ride at 78 degrees with about 8-10cm difference between saddle and top of aerobar pads. I am 5’9", 158lbs.

Thanks for the review, I just got one of those saddles but haven’t used it yet. I have several Selle Italia “Prolink Gel” saddles (2004 model) and have found them to be an absolute quantum leap in saddle technology with 1) carbon rails 2) ergo shape 3) elastomer vibration dampening 4) gel inserts. They say that saddle fit is a personal thing but I have never seen such advances before as what I’ve seen in this years selle italia models.

Nice review, I love mine. Got it after the Azoto rails broke. It’s a much better saddle for my riding style. 74-75 degrees, but I ride the norse at times.

I could be wrong, but the nose feels wider than the Azoto…which I think makes it more comfortable as the pressure is spread out. Certainly less padded…which, again, is a good thing.

Also should be mentioned that the rails on this saddle are LONG…so I’d venture a guess that many people using the fast forward could go back to a straight bar and use the rails.

There’s a bit of flex in the saddle too boot…

Any updates on this saddle? I (think) I need something soft(ish), currently on a Fizik Aliante.

It is definitely softer than a Aliante, however it is tri position specific.

You sure? You may have thought I said Fizik Arione, not Aliante.
