Seeking Tri Relays

Due to time constraints, something’s gotta give – and it is swim training. I’m going to do the du’s next season. But, I’m searching for triathlons with a relay category to do the bike+run legs.

Does anybody have any suggestions in So. California or Bay Area of races that have a relay category (Oly or longer)?

Dannon has one in Calrsbad that is way cool

Julian,

I am considering doing a bunch of relays next year as well. One on my radar is Brad Kerns Worlds Toughest Half Ironman in April near Auburn, CA. Not only does it have a relay but at $75 per person it is fairly inexpensive compared to the individual cost of about $200. Usually the relay member has to pay about the same as an individual.

Yikes. That is going to be a painful race, but thanks for the tip. That might work in my schedule. Finding a swimmer might be tough, but I could also enter and do it sans swimmer and just wait a polite amount of time after the swimmers start coming through T1.

Julian,

E-mail one of the Bay Area tri clubs and I bet you would have no problem finding a swimmer. If that does not work I bet Brad would let you leverage off of one of the swimmers who is doing the race as an idividual. E-mail Brad beforehand and ask if you can find a swimmer at the start who can act as your relay swimmer. Once that swimmer comes out of the water you take off on the bike and they do their individual race. Only issue would be your cost to race with or without a swimmer.

Dannon has one in Calrsbad that is way cool, I needed a runner last year, did’nt have one so I just “raced” the bike course myself (snuck in) and toed the line with the fast AGrs & pros

Well, isn’t that ethical.

Julian,

I would be interested in swimming as part of relays - esp. LA/San Diego or SF Bay Area. If you have any races in mind, just e-mail me directly at daveinmammoth@yahoo.com. My main issue would be trying to convince my wife/kids to let me travel more…but World’s Toughest would be fun - at least the swim is flat…does Ralph’s in April have relay’s? I have some friends doing that one and I have no interest in racing the full race. I’m sure you’re not too particular with times but I should be able to swim about 10%-15% slower than the fastest swimmers. I also wouldn’t mind doing some swim/runs with someone else biking…

David

Thanks, Dave. I’ll save your email.

No, Ralph’s does not have a relay category :frowning:

I’ll keep my eyes open for opportunities. I might be interested in bike-only at Vineman, with someone else handling swimming + 6 hour nap + running.

J and A said they would only let me transfer to relay for the IMdistance. I might be interested in forming a relay team, entry already paid for. I’m also doing CDA five weeks later so now I think I’m stupid for attempting CaliforniaMan full

Given your situation, you would probably want to do the swim and bike at Cal.Man and have someone else do the marathon. It would be a great endurance session for you before CDA. I wouldn’t want to do a marathon at that point in the season. I’m sure you could get someone from either the SF Tri club or a running club out in Sacto.

Larry B? I’ll do the swim or bike if you are forming a relay team.

Ah, must be Mr. H20 himself - long time no see. No thanks on the 26.2. My plan is a 1/2 marathon in Feb (Davis Stampede), California 1/2 in April then IM CDA in June. I may throw an Xterra qualifier in there somewhere. You would not happen to know the total elevation gain for IM CDA? Talk to ya later.
