Make the trip to Clermont and swim at the NTC pool http://www.usat-ntc.com/ a lot warmer than the Lakes right now.
I wouldn’t swim anywhere here without kayak/boat assistance, dark water, obstructions, wildlife etc.
No one in Florida swims in the lakes now so if ya wanna? Wear a Full Sleeve! Drive to Clermont and I’ll be your Kayaker/Spotter.
Look up locals Steve Jones (chiropractor) or Patrick High and they will swim with you. We had an open water tri in Gainesville on Sunday (where I got my butt kicked by Dan Domingo & company BTW) and the water temp. was perfect.
I would think that Sebring Lake would be really nice as well.
Thanks. So what I hear is colder water, wildlife that could eat you, and need for a spotter. I know the hotel has a small crappy pool. Maybe there is a YMCA in Sebring that has a lap pool! I forgot about alligators! I’m from Boston, so what do I know?
Thanks guys!

Timbo,
I am racing my car at Sebring, so it has to be something close to Sebring. Looks like clermont is at least an hours drive from Sebring. But thaks for the referral just the same.

Awesome, I went to Monster Trucks last week! 95 minutes to Clermont.
In a former life, I almost took a job in Sebring.
One of the reasons I didn’t was because there weren’t any local pools.
I do seem to remember that the local high school has a pool, but it’s not open to the public.
I looked at apartments and there was one place on the lake (I forget which lake) that I could’ve had for a real bargain price. I thought about taking the job and swimming in the lake, but common sense won out. You just don’t know what kind of bacteria or wildlife are in those lakes.
I think you’re pretty much screwed unless you want to look for a place to swim in another city. Perhaps Lakeland or Sarasota? They’re closer than Clermont.
Call Steve Jone 863-382-3228…Tell him Kevin Grogan sent you. Ask him where he swims in the winter. I know there is a local lap pool there.
No danger, the water and air are too cold for 'gators this time of year. They can’t digest when its cold, so they go into a hybernation phase.
So I am her in Sebring. Its 85 dgrees, sunny and warm. Went for a great hour long run down a nicw country road. Sweet! (remember Im from Boston)
So my hotel room overlooks Little Lake Jackson. It looks great, and the water is 75 degrees the hotel recepionist tells me. She also tells me there are alligators in it, and forget about swimming in the lake. She also tells me the local Y pool isnt done yet. There is a pool at the HS, but they wont let he public in there.
Bottom line, no swimming for the next 5 days. UGH! At least the running is great!
Time to go race the car! Thanks for all your resposnes gang.
