Seattle to Portland

In order to get over my New Balance Half Ironman performance, I’m planning on doing STP, likely in 2 days. Curious if anyone else is a) going, b) doing it in 1 day (as I could be convinced to suffer) and c) interested in sharing accommodations if doing it in 2 days.

I have signed up for the 1 day. First time ever not really sure how I will go but I have a 150 mile ride on Saturday so I suppose that will give me a good idea.

Hubby is a one day rider but we are not riding together as he will be much faster.

Wave as you guys go by - we are on the route and I will be sitting outside the shop (extremely early) with some coffee. If you forget something I will be there, of course there is the double price for items rung up before 7 am - ouch!

you will have a blast. I did this with the triathlon group I use to train with. At one point on day one we had a paceline of around 40 people and the organizers were not too happy but man were we flying. It was a bit much to control but a ton of fun. Stayed at a school at the mid way point and met a lot of people.

Did it in 2 days last year and had a blast overnighting at one of the schools - I seem to recall the overnight stops are basically fundraisers for the actual school / church you stay in…great training ride
.

Dammit - every year in the early Spring I plan to do this, then I forget and either miss it or have other plans. This year I’ll be out of town. Crap!

Although if I was in town, I’d be racing Squamish anyway…

Still, one of these years… Maybe I’ll just get a map and solo that mofo already.

I did the one-day version in 2003. The worst part was the first 50 miles, with dense traffic and lots of posers going fast but destined to blow well before the century mark - very dangerous due to their inexperience in the fast pacelines (several ugly accidents). The middle 100 miles are the prettiest; the last 50 is a slog down a busy main road into Portland. I have no great urge to do it again.

I am doing the one day – but the wife wants to ride with her friend and has demanded that I ride with them so they can draft, have a bike mechanic with them and a sherpa – Uhgggggg – I expect a very long day – I am preparing mentally to just pedal along and see the sites. (The wife knows she had to demand because I would normally hammer)

You are welcome to join us if you do not mind the leisurely pace. (The wife’s friend is single!!)

Send me a PM if interested.

I will wave and yell Aloha.

What time are you anticipating on getting to Portland? We are 4 women riding together (didn’t even bother to ask hubby) so we will look for you…a forlorn looking guy with 2 women!!!

thank you very much for the offer. i think my plan right now is to do it in two days with some substantial efforts mixed in for training purposes. my better half would be highly suspect if a number of pictures of me materialized where i was sucking wheel behing you, your wife and her friend. not good.

could we do 120 1st day and find motel or should we find motel in centralia
.
