So I need some recommendations for nice restaurants in Seattle. Mrs. Vitus and I will be in town for a couple of days, we have a built-in babysitting team, and it would be nice to have a night on the town. What’s out there?
Seattle is a pretty big place – where in Seattle??
There are a bunch of really nice places – Do you like Brew Pubs?? How nice do you want to get??
Great resteraunt at Snoqualimie Falls – Big Bucks to eat there $$$$$$
I’ve only visited the area, but a drive up to the Chateau St Michelle winery (or the Redhook Bewery across the road) is a nice activity for a sunny afternoon…
…and the salmon at the Redhook place was outstanding.
What was I thinking!!?!?!?!!?
You can go to Daniels and then visit Triumph Multisport shop, drop in and say hi to John (great guy who owns the shop) and around the corner is a retro roadie shop – and you can take a nice stroll along Lake Washington after dinner.

Daniel’s Leschi is very cozy and very romantic (there will be No Absintence after dinner at Daniel’s) – unless you spend to much time at the tri shop (hint: shop first, dine second)
Oceanaire ($$), Flying Fish ($$), Union ($$$) have offered consistently good culinary experiences. These are all downtown.
Pink Door’s food is ok, the outside seating makes a great spot for lunch on a nice day.
There’s a good number of pricey places that are way overrated, imo. It’s pretty hard to mess up a steak…
Why don’t you check out chowhound.com for good in depth reviews? I am sure you can find lots of useful stuff there. you can also PM me if you want.
Thanks for the tips- I’ll check out chowhounds.
Any of you Seattle folks ever eat at the Stumbling Goat? How is it?
Stumbling Goat has been inconsistent. I would say it’s $-$$. First few visits, different items on menu were pretty good (the pork being an exception), last couple times however, the stuff we had hasn’t been quite as yummy. Not a bad place by any means, the chef and sous chef are good guys, and is very neighborhood cozy, not the urban feel of the other places I mentioned to you. This place is a short cab ride away, but definitely not downtown.
Wild Ginger is pretty good, very hip right now it seems. The food is like Gordy’s up on 29th in Spokane if you’ve ever eaten there. More expensive due to the hippness factor, but good if you’re into Gordy’s type food.
after your question on “Stumbling Goat”, “Le Pichet” may have the cozy/small/good food combo you may be after and it’s right downtown (on 1st Ave & Virginia). French cuisine. Most lunch menu items are really good. Dinner is equally good. I would say $-$$, about as pricey as the Goat.
I’ll second the food at Wild Ginger. Not the most intimate place but the atmosphere is fun, sitting at the Satay bar is a blast and the food is dynamite.
Went to a Mexican place in Fremont, don’t recall the name of it, something like Blue Coyote or something like that (could be way off on that one) anyway it was right across the street from a famous bar right on the corner (triangle bar or something like that) Wow, this isn’t helpful at all is it? Anyway, the food was FANTASTIC. Kinda pricey for mexican, but this wasn’t your run-of-the-mill Chi Chi’s or Pedros mexican, this was authentic gourmet mexican and it rocked. The margaritas were awesome as well.
In Bellevue, not as convenient as a downtown restaurant, we love to go to Spazzo’s for Tapas. The flaming cheese thing is fun and tasty, OPAH!
Lot’s pf great places in Seattle. Can’t wait to move there in August. Take the underground tour, it’s pretty cool.
When I go to Seattle on business, I love to eat (at least one night) at the oyster bar in the former Four Seasons (now Fairmont) hotel. The second best oysters I ever had.
A cold Anchor Steam and a dozen oysters - heaven.
How about the Space Needle? My brother is a Saucia (sp) there.
.
you pay for the view.
If your brother works there, you should ask him what he thinks of the food. I would also refer you to the site I cited earlier, chowhound.com. Do a quick search on the needle, see what others have thought.
Did you mean sous-chef?
“Did you mean sous-chef?”
No, I believe a sous chef is the head of the kitchen operations. My brother is a chef for soups and sauces. I believe it is a Sau-ce-ay (phonetically).
He does believe the Needle is overpriced, but it is a destination rather than just dinner.
For Downtown I will second Oceanaire. If you are in Seattle and you want to try somewhat regional cuisine, then that’s seafood. Oceanaire models itself after a Ruth’s or Morton’s type steakhouse but with seafood instead of fish. It is a bit pricy but I have never had a bad meal or bad service.
The Pink Door’s deck is also a good place for a view and drinks. Get there early though.
