Seatpost Q for Tom D

Hey Tom,

I just bought an Orbea Ultrafoco (steel w/ carbon seatstays), compact geometry. This will be my racebike for Ironman Brazil. I’m using a Profile fast forward seatpost at the moment.

Could I be losing some of that ‘sweet steel ride’ feeling because of the aluminum seatpost? Does anyone make a titanium or carbon fiber forward post? If so, which would be the best choice? I’m a big guy; 210 lbs so the post needs to be strong and long (due to the sloping top tube)

I would appreciate yours and anyone elses input and advice.

Thanks,

MZM

There have been a couple attempts at a forward seat post in carbon but not many have gained momentum in the market. The Corima, which was reversible, very bladed and quite flexible, is the first on that comes to mind.

While I’ve never been a big fan of forward seat posts the Profile and Sugino models are probably the most reliable. I don’t think this will change the ride quality of your cro-moly frame significantly at all. I think you’ll be fine.

If you can get away with a Thomson striaght post that may be a better alternative than a full-forward post, which may shift a bit too much of your weight forward for really good handling.

Good luck!
