SeaSucker Bike Racks?

Anyone have any experience with their suction-based rack system?

Wow . . this looks like it could solve my problem of getting my bike on my car, but I would definitely like to hear some feedback from anyone here who already has one.

Thanks!

Bill

I have them. Got them about 2 weeks ago. Paid $240 for two-piece Talon model at LBS. I like them, and have confidence! Orbea and Klein have both riden on them, with no worries. I like that they give me a roof rack without all the hardware and I put them on my roof and trunk combo, and I can drive into my garage without hitting.

Anyone try these seasucker racks out long term?

Looking to get a new rack and these look interesting.

I have a good buddy who has been using his for a few years. He’s very happy with it. He’s driven across the country several times with his bike suctioned to the top of his car without issue (he’s in the military). If I needed a bike rack, I’d get one.

It appears as though this guy has a little confidence in the setup:

Thanks, I think that will seal the deal, well and the fact that out the door it’ll be over $125 < then traditional roof racks.

I have one for a little over a year now. No issues with it as long as you store it properly (you need to use the plastic store trays for the suction cups). I drive to work with the bike on the roof at 90mph - no issues .

The only issue is the rack does not lock to your car. You can steal the whole rack in about 15 seconds. Also deep wheels are really hard to attach to the rear suction.

I have one.

It worked great until this summer when the suction cups melted flat during a hot day.

The good news is I called them. They told me that they had chronic problems with that happening. They have updated the formulation of the compound and it now supposedly worked better. And they sent me new suction cups.

I will say this. There are two kinds of people that carry bikes on roof racks. Those who have hit something… and those who are going to hit something. I suspect that having the occasional roof rack makes this problem worse. (though the bike is much lower on my car than it would be on a normal roof rack.

I mount my on my rear window and trunk of my mustang and can make it into my parking garage at work and my garage at home
.

I was checking them out at IMAZ. From what I saw they looked great (and definitely more cost effective than traditional roof racks). Add to that the ability to easily swap cars as needed it seems very cool. Now… if they added a “we’ll replaced your bike if they fail” policy… I’d be all over it

I can as well… barely. Which makes it doubly dangerous probably…

My only issue was how easy it would be to steal. Not that a thief couldn’t get your stuff regardless, but that system just makes it too easy.

I’ll wait until they come up with a good way to secure it.

Problem solved! Well it keeps honest people away. I could steal that bike in a matter of seconds with a hack saw by cutting that chincy anchor. or using a center punch to shatter the window quietly.

I think this is what you see on that viper!

Yeah I saw that. Not impressed. I don’t feel like draping a cable around everything, everytime I stop.

Seems like some kind of lock ring around that plunger to keep from undoing it, and maybe a metal cover plate on the cup to keep from just cutting the cup and releasing the suction.

We all know that if someone wants it they’ll get it, but you at least have to make it a challenge.

I have had mine for about a year now. I have put everything from a downhill bike to a Tri bike. Was i freaked out the first time i used it, HELL YES. I drive a 65 mustang and i needed something other that a traditional rack. the big benefit is that you can attach this thing anywhere. I have mounted this to the trunk, back window, and roof. When it is mounted to the window i can access any parking garage. I did drive from Seattle to Whistler with a 50lb downhill bike attached. It was a 4 hour drive and everything was totally fine. I am from NY and drive like an asshole. At one point i was going 95 and the the bike wasn’t even moving. They are a good product. People that freak out about stuff like these are the same people that carry their Tri bikes across grass…

Guaranteed if someone wants it, they’ll take it.

I had my Thule roof rack with locks/ locked stolen off of my car in a busy parking lot. Lucky no bikes on it.

There isn’t a better full proof way to protect your investment, then to keep it with you at all times. Even then you aren’t guaranteed. But that’s what insurance is for, right…?

I have one and love it. I do the back window and trunk thing to REDUCE the possibility of driving into something. Drove Vegas to So-Cal with it - no problems!

We used them on our annual bike ride from Greenville, Sc to Austin tx. We do this as a relay so we are driving 300 - 400 miles a day to catch up to our transition points! We consistently did 75 mph for hours on end on rough back roads with strong cross winds and headwinds. We had 5 bikes on the Tahoe using a combination of Seasucker single and doubles. They worked flawlessly. We had a $7k trek domane, a lightspeed, 2 madones and an orbea up there and none of us worried about them after the first day. I can not say enough about how impressed I was with them. Love love love them.
