it is very hard to tell exactly what is wrong without seeing what is going on.
if you can’t start the threads easily, sometimes you can turn the screw counterclockwise a few times, and then turn clockwise and the threads may catch then
it is also possible that the threads on the particular hole are damaged and that is why the screw won’t go in easily.
can you take the shoe, cleat, screws to a shop and have them look at it (the shop where you bought the shoes or cleats)?
The irony in the above post must be some seasoned cyclist humor that I am not yet privy too… but I am sure that some day, once I gain more experience on the bike, I will look back at the post, grasp the irony and laugh like I thought I’d never.
The shoes are Sette cycling shoes. I bought them online.
The screws screw into the shoe alone just fine, it’s a problem when I try to go through the cleat, the washer type thingy and into the hole.
I wasn’t sure if this was a common difficulty or if it was just me. I will go to the local bike shop, ask for their assistance, and then, like, buy a water bottle or something from them in return.
Most spinning classes are lax enough to let you just put your pedals on their bike. It’s a lot easier that way. Just don’t forget to bring your pedal wrench.
Check the threads by screwing the screws into the shoes by themselves without the cleats. This will ensure the threads are ok and cleans up the threads in the shoes.
