Scott Foil ... anyone riding one? How is it?

The field of candidates in my own personal primary is narrowing … and the frontrunner, by a narrow margin, is the Scott Foil (likely the Red equipped model, though perhaps the mechanical Dura Ace is a dark horse – I’ve talked myself out of e-shifting, at least for the immediate future).

Anybody ride one? What say you, America and the world?

I own one and love it. Without knowing what else you’re looking at, I can only assume it’s other aero road bikes. All things being equal on the build, the Foil will be the lightest. Not that it really matters. But if you’re counting grams, I think it beats the Venge by 100 grams.

The ride is stiff. But coming from a TT bike, it’s no big deal to me. She climbs like a goat. I was told the geometry is the same as the Addict, so the handling and fit of this frame has been around. Oh, and those GreenEDGE fellas seem to be doing OK with it.

I LOVE my FOIL. Came from a Scott Addict and was so happy with that that I decided to stick with Scott and get the FOIL. Really can’t say enough great things about it. I had an Addict so I was used to the stiffness and really prefer it. Seems like it takes me fewer watts to hold speed than with the same position on the Addict, guess that’s the aero frame coming into play.

I also stayed away from e-shifting given that it’s a large expense and doesn’t actually make you faster. I’ll get it when the prices come down.

But, I really can’t think of another road bike I would rather have than the FOIL, unless I was rich and had the money to blow for the bling factor of the Dogma 60.1. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t have it yet, but on the 17th I’m getting fitted for my new Scott Foil 30. My LBS has it all built up and ready to go. Just waiting for the Bike Fitter to get back from his Honeymoon. (What’s up with that?)

It’s my first “real” Road Bike, so it’s all stock, since I wouldn’t yet know what I’d customize. But even the stock gear is quite good.

I have a custom Foil build. The Foil is a straight-up race bike. Short (massive) chainstays, relatively long top tube, short head tube. The chainstays are very thin but it doesn’t really tamp down the ride too much. The bike is very stiff which makes it a bit jarring on rough pavement. The stiffness also make it very efficient out of the saddle and in climbing. The bike is very responsive, it would make a great crit frame. The handling is quick due to the short wheelbase (if you’re new to road bikes, you might find it a bit twitchy). The front end and fork are both rock solid which helps in handling predictability, this bike decends like a bat out of hell. The wheelbase is a bit short meaning there’s the barest hint of toe overlap on my size 54 using SPD pedals. Seat post clamp is a bit fussy but works fine. IMO, it’s a hot looking frame but YMMV.

What will you use it for? Seems a little too stiff for a general training bike especially if the roads you ride on aren’t great.

I love my HMF framed Scott Foil 40.
Couldn’t quite afford an HMX frame, but I put my Sram Red parts on the white 40 with Easton control parts and she looks pretty sick.

My commute is full of pot holes and cracks in the road (thanks to Canadian winters), and it’s fine. If you’ve ever ridden aluminum (even a custom built Russ Denny with beautiful welds), your backside will still be happy. Rides like a race rocket, the run off the bike is quick, for me the fit was fantastic (and I haven’t even Retuled yet).

OH - and the Aero bottle thing (with the downtube being extra fat to hide the bottle), totally makes sense and seems to work. At least that’s what the guys on the P5’s and Shiv’s I passed during my most recent race were saying

Did you end up getting one?

Not yet … I got distracted by the Trek Domane. It’s still on my short list. I’ve decided to hold off until early Spring, and get something new then.

I have a Foil 20, the bike is great, light, handles great and does not beat me up, I can do a century without a problem.
I upgraded the wheels, bars and stem, it looks awesome all blacked out. Not too many on the road which is nice but I have feeling that will be changing.

I rode an Tarmac SL4 and found it to be more twitchy and not as comfortable, I think the head angle must be a little steeper on the Tarmac, not sure maybe the wheelbase too.
