So here’s my dilemma.
I have a sleevless ROKA wetsuit for a very warm 24.5C 70.3 race this weekend. I’m wondering how to wear my sleeved Scody trisuit underneath. Should I have it tucked in during the swim, then deal with putting on the wet sleeves in T1, or should I just wear it normally underneath the wetsuit. The sleeves sticking out will probably slow down the swim a little…but I’m wondering if the time difference will be negligible. I’m generally a 1:25/100m swimmer over the HIM distance.
Thanks for any replies…
Check the legality of sleeves in your swim, depending on the ‘importance’ of the event, you may be a DQ chance if someone is having a bad day and singles you out. (Crowie Hawaii 70.3).
I swam with the sleeved Skody suit under my Blue Seventy suit in Hawaii last year, rolled down. I had a few practice runs pulling it up out of the water and was a hassle compared with a sleeveless suit. Luckily the helpers in the change tent gave me a hand.
Try bunching the sleeve and pull it up in a handful. Good Luck with your race.
Thanks for the response. The race is a wetsuit legal swim…so I assumed that the sleeves would be no problem.
If I’m not mistaken, Crowie was DQ’d for wearing sleeves under his swimskin in a wetsuit illegal race.
Yeah…so far I’m not a big fan of pulling up the wet sleeves after a swim. I’ve practiced a few times and it’s definitely a pain in the ass.
I did the same thing for my warm 70.3 swim this season, it worked well. The one thing I did was I left my trisuit unzipped under my wetsuit for a little bit more flexibility. The swim was a PB for me, so didn’t effect my time, plus one less thing to worry about in T1!
im curious too as i have this suit- did you wear the suit done up underneath your wettie? I assumed most rolled it down purely because of the shoulder inflexibility. I might try and do a practice swim with the suit done up this weekend.
I actually have a kiwami one piece sleeveless that I’m considering using.
I’ll let you guys know what I end up doing and how everything worked out. Thanks for the responses thus far…
Please let us know. I;m very interested as I’m considering getting the Orca Kona suit and the sleeves are so tight I dont think I’d be able to put it on in T1 when wet.
Well, I ended up wearing the Scody with the sleeves sticking out of the sleeveless Roka wetsuit and everything went well. Ended up swimming the 1.9km swim in 27:07 which is roughly what I was targeting.
I went all in and bought the Orca last week, raced in it this weekend, Olympic distance.
Suit felt great and definitely protected me from sunburn on what was a savagely hot day.
In the heat of preparation in the morning I forgot to lube up the undercarriage and I did get some savage chafe on the run from the chamois - more my fault than the suits because I should have lubricated better.
All in all very happy - just praying my A-race in 4 weeks time is also a wetsuit swim
so you kept the sleeves on/suit done up under a full wetsuit and didn’t find any constriction?
Sleeves on - zip undone (the zip is pretty long)
Didnt notice any more restriction than I would normally associate with a suit. Conditions were very windy so difficult to judge if I swam any slower because of it.
This is basically how I wore the suit. The Scody was unzipped underneath and I had no problems with the arms.

good stuff! notice the numbers gotta go on the forarms, forgot about that little problem
