Sciatica and hamstring tightness

Every time I try to run my hamstring tightness up, hips feel weak, and just feel like I have no power in my stride. The onset is after 1/2 mile into run. I was experiencing some to tingling/buzzy feeling in my hamstring and feet. But this has gone away. It doesn’t hurt to run but my leg just feels really weak. I’m assuming I have performis syndrome since I have no lower back pain. But I’m wondering if this is normal for the hamstrings to seize up when running if you the sciatic nerve is trapped. How long will this last?

I think this is a good time to consult with a Dr. Maybe get an mri to rule out anything potentially bad. I say this because I’ve been there.

This. The first thing I thought was a herniated disc or something. The back doesn’t actually have to hurt for it to be a back issue (I had disc issues that caused pain down the leg and not in my back). Good luck, and hopefully the doctor has some answers!

Sounds like the piriformis syndrome I had a few years ago, but I agree with the others – see an orthopedist to rule out a lumbar disc problem. The symptoms can be identical, it’s just that piriformis syndrome is a pinched nerve as the sciatic nerve passes under or through the piriformis muscle, while the bulging/herniated disc pinches the same nerve near the spinal cord.

If you absolutely refuse to see a doctor (bad idea), have a massage therapist work on the piriformis muscle as well as the muscles that run along the sciatic nerve – it can get irritated anywhere on its whole length. I’ve also had symptoms when my IT band and hamstring were stuck together, irritating the nerve and giving me pain on the outside/back of my knee and outside of my calf.

i had same thing, based on what i read i thought it was either piroformis or sciatica, doctor told me if its piroformis syndrome, it actually should hurt when you push into it, which it didnt, i had mri and found out i had partial tear in upper hamstring, that then caused glute and lower back pains, just stop doing everything until you know, that upper hamstring/glute area is used in all three sports, i wasted several months thinking it was just a running injury, stopped running and kept biking/swimming, but it didnt go away till everything stopped
