School me om Rudy Project wing57 TT helmet

Considering change from my old Catlike chrono.

I’ve read alot different stuff about the wing57. Claims to be superfast but obviously doesnt test too fast? Which is it- fast? Slow? Impossible to tell cause it varies from person to person?

I put my head down alot - chronos long tail bad for that i Guess. Will wing57 be good head down vs head up compared to other helmets?

I was considering the Wing 57 but after hearing about the test results from some riders at ERO, reading an independent tunnel test, and consulting with some Slowtwitchers who tested at ERO, I went with the Specialized S-works TT helmet.

great helmet. I have one for sale.

Funny guy! too fast for ya?:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

honestly I have no problem with it. my cycling team picked up a helmet sponsor so I’m making a switch.

It rarely tests well on a lot of people and it is about a generation behind the latest and greatest lids. It seems unlikely that it would be a good investment. The Kask, P-09, or new Specialized are probably better bets.

I have had this same dilemma about which aero TT helmet to get. Are there any good websites from which to buy the Specialized S-works TT helmet? My local shops do not have it.

it’s really fast for 10-15% of the people suing it and not so fast for the other 85-90%.

Which % do you fall into?

For about the 1 Millionth time, if you (and that means everyone not just the OP) are not going to test just buy the most bad ass looking TT helmet out there, or the one that makes the most people fear you in transition or the one that helps you color coordinate your helmet to your bike to your shoes to your race kit and stop asking questions that have no one size fits all answers, especially when they’ve been asked over and over and over then over some more.

Ok, so based on your testing would be the most fearsome helmet for me. I am a Taurus.

Is there a generalization that can be made for who the Wing57 tends to work for? I’ve tested and found out that the Wingspan is best for me compared to Giro Advantage 2, Specialized TT2, and Spiuk Kronos. Although I believe the Wingspan works well for a lot of people so that suggests that the Wing57 doesn’t work for the Wingspan crowd otherwise it would be fast for more than 10-15% of people.

The wingspan and Wingspan 2 work well for about 10-15% of the people I’ve tested them on. mostly though they don’t fall beyond the top 3 choices. for instance I know the wingspan is between the 5th-8th fastest helmet for me. My results are not unusual when I’ve tested those helmets on people.

if you’ve got data on it testing well I’d love to see it

You can only order it through a Specialized dealer or on the Specialized website
.

Can you summarize the types of riders that tested fast with the 57? Any distinct characteristics? I have one (never used it yet) and I have an older Bell Meteor that I have used many times. They are very different in shape and length, so I would be curious of any known data on the two in comparison.

Thanks!
Jack

well thanks - had tried some searching but didnt quite realize how individual helmets can be in terms of being fast on different people. Since i wont be grabbing 5 helmets and testing them up against each other i applied your secondary approach. However, instead of going with the color/badass-look, I did what any sensible person would do - grabbed the most expensive one (thats gotta be the fastest right? ;))

thanks

Its interesting that Jenson Button went for the wing 57, considering he could get a free specalized helmet from work

I’ve also been looking at the Wing 57 and the Lazer Wasp Air as I like the integrated visor and the shorter tail (compared to my current Advantage 2).

I don’t want to just buy one for looks ($250-$300) but also can’t really afford to buy em, test em, & then sell em. Has anyone returned an Aero helmet after conducting a test? I’ve read some return policies for retailers and they say “100% satisfaction guarantee”. Does that go out the window once you take them for a ride (assuming you don’t crash with them).

I was thinking I could order 2 helmets, test them against my Giro Advantage 2 and send the loser(s) back. Is this wrong?

Any advice on the test protocol?

I wonder how much of how well a helmets tests has to do with how good a fit it is to your head. Button’s Wing57 is a pretty close fit, while MBE’s is adding a lot of extra frontal area.

One reason the Giro A2 may consistently test well is the range of sizes.

If anyone wants, I have a wing57 to sell. I love the helmet but it doesn’t fit my big head. I’ve only wore it for 10 miles. Literally. Still in the box and all. It’s a large btw.
