Schedule: ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Chicago

Not sure where the original release is from, but I just saw the proposed schedule via the “USAT TeamUSA” Facebook group. Copied and pasted via Dave Campbell of that group:

Sept. 20 Standard World Championships - Age-Group

I’m a first-time Worlds qualifier, so I"m not really sure how everything flows throughout that week. I’m racing in the standard distance age group championships.

I was planning on arriving late Friday night. Will I be able to do everything (packet pick-up, transition set-up, etc.) on Saturday the 19th, then race on Sunday the 20th? Or would that be too late for some reason?

Edit: Official press release is here: http://www.usatriathlon.org/…-age-group-race.aspx

Good for age groupers - looks like they can compete in all 3 events (Aquathon, Sprint, Standard)

No U23/Junior Elites in the Aquathlon if they’re racing the main event, that’s a shame, but can’t have everything.

Looking forward to it.

As I wrote on the FB group, you will be fine based on past experience to get your stuff Sat. BUT, you have to rack you bike Sat even though they let a few in the morning of the race. :o)

Yep, folks should be able to do all 3 races now since they are 48 hours apart. I just now need to see if I get in via the lottery.

Man, you’re fast on the responses! I posted this on here and in the Facebook group just to get the quick response. Appreciate the help.

You staying at the team hotel?

.

USAT hasn’t announced anything about it yet… So I booked at the Essex inn, the room can be cancelled if I find something better… I just wanted to be locked into something affordable, close to the race site.

Very smart.

So sprint race on Fri and standard race on Sun. Do you think most Team USA members who qualified for both will do both races?

I’m on the rolldown list for the sprint race and am hoping some of my very talented 55-59 peers will choose to focus on the Sun race. I’m thinking about signing up for the open race on Sat, but don’t want to have to eat that entry fee if I get a rolldown spot.

Dave, I already know that you did all three races at Edmonton and will do multiple races in Chicago if you get the opportunity.

Not american but I did both the sprint and the olympic in Edmonton. I found it worked perfectly in Edmonton because you got 2 days off in between races and the sprint race served as a good activation workout for me for the olympic. I felt fresh on race day.

I’m sort of on the fence about doing that for Chicago though… since there is only one day in between. I would guess it would depend on which race you think is your strength and what you want to focus on. And how well you recover

Interesting. I had the opposite experience. Felt great and performed ok in sprint. Totally flat though for the standard…I have the option to do both but may just do one this time. ( I’m canadian so americans…don’t get excited about a potential roll down!)

I have a question about the schedule:
In their age group athlete’s guide they emailed us a few days ago, Tri Canada says the Elite Men’s final is on Sunday the 20th. On the tri.org website that is quoted in this thread, it says it is on Satuday the 19th. Makes a big difference when booking a return flight! Any insight from you guys on this discrepancy?

Anywhere I’ve seen the schedule, it’s always said Elite Men’s race on Saturday the 19th and the Standard AG on the 20th.

Official press releases stated it that way too. So I’d say it’s definitely that way, but I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to email Tri Canada and ask. If anything, you’ll help some other people out too as they might notice their mistake and send another email with the correct schedule.

Yeah. I emailed them right away about the error, saying a lot of folks might even schedule their return flight on the wrong day because of it. I got an auto reply saying they were gone til January 5th. Oh well. Whatcanyado.

I just hope the “grand final” is early Saturday so we can go to the Cubs game

Where would people recommend staying? Where are the fellow Canadians going to be?

I would just wait for the announcement email from TriCan. They’ll have all the info for the team hotel.

The NFL schedule was announced last week. The Bears have a home game at noon on Sept. 20. Is the ITU Worlds sked likely to be changed now?

I sure hope not but this may be a real possibility. I sure hope not because I’ve already booked the hotel and everything. Transition zone and Soldier Field are only about a mile apart though.

I assume this might be the reason that USAT, at least, hasn’t opened registration yet for the AG races (except for the open event). The race website schedule page now states “Updates to the 2015 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Chicago and World Championships schedule will be made available on this page.” I don’t remember seeing that language on that page previously.

Selfishly, it may be a good thing for me. I’m on the roll down list for the sprint, and if they move the Oly race to an earlier date, folks who qualified for both the sprint and the Oly will not be allowed by ITU rules to do both if they’re not 48 hours apart.
