Germany’s pole vaulter Anna Battke showed up at the Indoor Track Worlds in Valencia, Spain with “No Doping” written in red on her stomach, and “true leg” written on in black on the outside of her right leg, and “true arm” written in black on her right upper arm. She apparently wanted to say something, but officials didn’t like it and she had to remove her “statement.”
After washing off the statement she finished 8th.
No doping on her stomach
and “true arm” and “true leg” written on the appropriate other body parts
Most all sports have rules or regulations against making the sports political/social forums. I’m sure they didn’t want it to cross the line into making the sport a billboard for everyone’s little statements. “Save the whales!” “Obama 2008!” “I rule!”
It’s cool that she’s against doping and all, but saying that you’re against doping is like saying “breaking the law is illegal!” Duh.
I’ve noticed that the women in these track and field events from Europe are frequently as beautiful as they are slow. Fun to watch them get introduced before the race in HD.
I don’t. I just know what I occasionally see. I think the last I saw were the worlds. All of those stunning hotties getting blown out by chicks of African heritage from the US, Bahamas, Jamaica, etc.

SPRINTS… that’s it, and that’s just a very small part of track adn field. Distance and field events are western and eastern European dominated.
Hmm. I think I watched the 800s and the 1500s or whatever and remember the same results of hotness != fastness. So maybe it was the unattractive European women who were cleaning up the longer distance races.
After the first few races I saw, it almost seemed to me as if the nation of, say, Norway, knew they didn’t stand a chance in hell of anything other than competing with Finland for dead last and decided to boost tourism by slugging in a beauty queen who had never before put on running shoes.
Wow, you must not follow women’s track and field much. Other than sprints, they pretty much rule track and field. \
I was going to say the same thing. I just watched the indoor worlds too, and I was really suprised at how bad we got beat, as compared to when I watch the outdoor races. The Russians totally dominated, and that Aussie gal snuck in on that tatical 1500 I think it was. I don’t see indoor much, but if this is any indication of what goes on, then the skinny white girls definately dominate. Even the 4 X 400 relay was a fight for 3rd for our gals, while the two winning teams were up the road…There isn’t a lot of crossover from outdoor to indoor either, a lot of new names that I never see, and I watch a lot of outdoor… I think a lot of the great outdoor athletes just don’t bother. Seemed like there was some decent prize money though, 50k for winning an event I think I heard, 80k for relays, and 50k bonus for world records, You never hear the money stats at outdoor…
