So, I’ve acquired a few of those now-ubiquitous ‘headsweats’ brand visors that I really like but I’m finding that after about a year they loose their elasticity pretty quickly…
Anyone have any bright ideas for fixing this? I thought of heating the elastic band, which would probably shrink it up but then it will most likely loose its elasticity. ??
Just wish they make they still made those good old fashioned visors for race swag!
P.S. no I don’t have a giant melon that is stretching it out.
Go to the local fabric store and find a new piece of elastic. Either sew it on yourself or take it to a tailor or seamstress and have them do it.
Alternatively, you could sew a tuck in the elastic which would fix things temporarily.
I am kind of being a smartass here…
The visors are about $20.00. If they are wearing out after a year, you only need to save $.38 per week to buy a new one every year.
puncture two holes on each side where the band used to attach.
3.get some stretch cord at a place like EMS or REI or another climbing store. thinnest you can find.
4.one piece at a time, run cord from left puncture hole to right puncture hole, tie in knots or if you want to be supper fancy…
4a.get cordlocks from REI and knot one end and use cordlock on other end so it is adjustable.
I used to do this with “Bar” hats from “The Game”, those were the sh*t in the mid 90’s. worked pretty well.
I just folded over a portion of the elastic and safety pinned it. If I wanted to be fancy, I could fold it over and zip it through my wife’s sewing machine I guess.

OMG. isn’t the average IM finisher’s salary 100k +
That’s an average, for all you know this guy might have $0 income. Besides I follow the same mindset ( and I currently have no income) in making things last a bit longer rather just throwing them in the trash when they can be fixed up in 5 mins.
I just noticed the same as I pulled out a HS visor I had not worn in a while. I thought about folding over the ‘excess’ band and putting a safety pin through it - effectively shortening the band and making it fit tighter (in theory). Not sure how long that’ll last though. For those suggesting to just buy a new one, it may not be easy to do if there’s a unique/team logo on the visor.
Wash on cold (when really stinky) and hang dry. Rotate 2-3 pair. And really, they are $15 shipped from running warehouse. I haven’t had to toss one 3 years (I did have to replace my first one when it got washed and dryed repeatedly). Now I rotate 3 and all are holding up great.
I have the same visor you are trying to preserve from 2010. While I don’t have issues with it yet, I have had the same problem with other HS visors. My thought is if I really want to “Save” it, I’d likely buy a new generic HS visor with the same color strap, then take it to a seamstress and have her switch them out (new in place of old). Botta bing…botta boom…brand new visor!
