Hi there,
Great day here …

Nice to meet you today! I got well acquainted with your rear view today!
Another beautiful day in Deep Creek. Well run, free ice cream and good food. LOVE the new finish line area.

Made my Savage debut today, allbeit in the International distance, not the full beast. Even the International is plenty Savage!
Cannot recommend this race enough. Beautiful setting, tough course, well organized, well run. Good barbecue and ice cream at finish line party, plus one of the most butt-ugly finisher shirts I ever seen (my wife threw up a bit in her mouth when she saw it; awesome!).
For everyone on this forum who ever bitched and moaned about over-priced, over-hyped, over-crowded draft-fests, I say get your ass to western Maryland and see what triathlon must have been like in the old days. Positive vibe and good times all around.
Bjorn started out on the run just after me (a freak coincidence based on the long course race starting an hour ahead of the International) and I had forgotten how big he is. Makes it even more impressive the way he crushes this bike course.
I will be back next year to race again, failing that to volunteer or officiate.
link to results?
It was good to see you today,
As for the race it was a beautiful day and there wasn’t dense fog during the swim for a change. I had a great time cheering everyone up the 22% climb up Killer Miller. Not sure about the final results, but Susan Miller was 3rd overall beginning the climb up Killer Miller.
Great job to everyone who finished!
Stacy
Andrew, from what I heard, Rick got 4th, Rob 5th, James 6th! Not bad for a bunch of old guys between 43 and 48
tks
.
not all.
Tom McGee 14th
Olivier Mouyau 15th
Ralph Werner not far behind …
The O-Town took prizes back home again.
Next year we will bring even more guys … I heard M. Fraser might come
My pleasure WillPA

Any idea how BZ (Big ZACH) did?
Great race. Did the oly last year after IMWI, made the half my A race for the year. Goal was 5:20 being cautious and realistic, 5:15 if things were perfect.
Good swim, bike started ok. By the time I got to the wallthough bike was shifting funky and rear wheel was rubbing chainstays despite qr skewer being tight. Made it up wall and over Big Savage with wheel rubbing and could not stop rear from junping gears. Made fo interesting climb up wall. Thought I was going to break a tooth or chain.
Problem got worse. Figured I might have to walk miller as could not stand on pedals at all without major rubbing and gear jumping. About mile 30 loose rear hub caused nut on qr to work loose and come off. Saw it bouncing down the road beside me. Stopped and looked for it for 30 min until support showed up. Got a new qr skewer but hub body was so loose that I could rock wheel (zipp 808) back and forth between stays. Said f*#k it, rode home in sag wagon, ate ice cream waiting for friends to finish.
5:25 won ag (m35-39). A flatbread pizza and 5-6 beers from the local microbrewery later and I’m not quite as mad.
Great race. Will be back again, awesome bang for your buck. Highly recommended.
I have a race report over at that other site. BigZach (snoring away in the room next door) finished fourth. I spoke to the RD, who said timing is still sorting out some of the results… all I got was three-deep.
I concur on the previous statement regarding who complain about cookie cutter courses to ante up and come do this race. It is a shocker, my kneecaps still ache. It was harder than 70.3 Monaco, which was my previous high water mark for difficulty. For as much billing as the bike course gets, the run course is super underbilled; it rolls and rolls, and is punctuated by a gnarly fireroad climb at the end of each lap that had many (including me) hiking up it.
This race just went into my top five favorite races, for its old school feel (inspirational signs dotting the course), its true, honest course, great service, organization, stocking. And made it up the wall in my 42x28. (If I had not made it up the wall, it would not make my top five.)
And watch out for Margie Shapiro and Lyne Bessette. Both had a nice debut at the distance.
One could argue BigZach was fourth or one could argue he was fifth… He did make it up the Wall this year, though. No incriminating photos of him pushing his bike this time.
Results are up.

Kyle, great job on the race this weekend. When do you expect the latest videos and photos to be uploaded to the website (savagemantri.org)?
Not bad for a bunch of old guys between 43 and 48
Yeah. its not too bad and I’d be happy to be even close to those guys. But can we not forget that Ms. Williams finished 3rd overall, beating even Rick? This was an absolutely stellar performance from her.* *
Would Bjorn riding a disc on this course pretty much end the discussion of is a disc appropriate for any course?

Are these results final? Some 42yo rode a 2:21 on this course?
Thanks for a great race Kyle! It almost makes me want to swim! Obviously I can’t spot Bjorn 18 minutes but it was a good day nevertheless. If I just had a few more miles…
For anyone thinking about Savage '10 just sign up now and get ready. You just can’t beat the atmosphere and the course. Grab a whole bunch of gears for your bike and a suitcase of courage (I didn’t even use a disc wheel this year, btw) and come on out. You won’t regret it!
