Saucony Type A vs Fastwitch Speed

Has anybody worn the Grid Type A shoes and run in a marathon? How does it feel compared to the Fastwitch speed/endurance version?

Any Saucony rep here at ST? I just called Saucony and found out they have just been bought by some company called Stridelight (sp??)

thanx!

I have the Fastwitch Endurance but have not used them in anything longer than a 1/2. I am planning on using them for my “A” marathon coming up at the end of Nov.

When I’ve raced longer distances (10k - 1/2 mary.) in the Fastwitch I notice my ankle and knee joints tend to be more sore. I ran my 21 yesterday (7:18 pace) with my Trigon 3’s and the legs feel okay. I have not done any of my long runs in the Fastwitch though …

i have also worn both the fastwitch speed and endurance version (both very comfortable shoes to me) but not more than a half marathon. I look at the Type A and it seems to have a little more juice in the sole but do not have 1st hand experience. Hopefully someone can shed some light.

thanx Daren.

Yup - I have. Did Lake Placid in type As and the Columbus marathon 2 weeks ago in the same pair with 300 miles on them. Fairly fast running (6:50 pace for the mary until mile 20

If you can run in the fasttwitch, you will be fine in the type-As for the mary. Just right in my opinion.

Hey thanx rroof. Does the Type A have a slightly thicker sole (or more juice) than the fastwitch speed/endurance?

I would say just slightly so in the forefoot, but definitely more in the rearfoot which is handy as you get tired and loose some good running form in a marathon. The key is the EVA outsole is a lot “softer” and surprisingly durable as well. I just got a new pair and I still like the “feel” of the older pair!

Thank you. this is the exact information i am looking for. Much appreciated. Placing order now!

TypeA has a thicker forefoot, as has been mentioned, and seems to have a much softer sole than the FT-Speed. The TypeA is my relaxed run shoe. The FT-Speed is my fast-training and race shoe (1/2IM).

Thanx Jordan!
