Hi gals & guys- currently use the Elites for racing and the Endorphin Pro for faster days / workouts. Using the Shifts for longer runs / daily grind so that I “feel slower”. I wanted to change things up to something more protective of my foot and perhaps make me “feel” even slower (yes, I want to feel slower) so I reached out to Saucony to ask them what to do and they suggested to switch to Kinvara 15 for the daily training shoe. Thoughts on that?
Saucony is not making the Shift anymore which i think is sad since the shoe was deeper/had better interior volume and felt more secure.
The Kinvara starting with the 14 or 15 (they are on the 15 now) had 4mm more foam added to the shoe which imo pushed it from a sporadic / specific training shoe towards more of a specific and daily driver shoe. You could look at the Kinvara pro for a daily driver shoe.
You could use the Saucony Ride for your slower shoe. If you’re willing to switch brands then the Hoka clifton or skyflow
Asics I’d look at the Cumulus or Nimbus
NB the 880 or 1080
Brooks - Glycerin or Ghost
Nike - IMO their training shoes mostly suck but you could try the Pegasus or…why bother just try something from another brand
That should get you started.
Hope that helps
Bummer on the Shifts for sure.
Thanks for the insight.
I’m willing to try something new since it’s only for slogs but does need to be a good fit since it’ll be a trainer for some long runs. Truth be told, I’m now using the Alphafly for “A races” and I’m just looking for something that PROTECTS my legs (feet, knees, etc…) while training in the lead up to big races. Hopefully the Kinvara 15 is suitable but I have my doubts for some reason …
Have you considered the Ride or Triumph shoes? They’ve both gone through some changes recently, but they’re good workhorse shoes. They protect your feet very well, and you’ll feel slower than in the Alphafly no doubt:)
There is nothing protective about the Kinvara. Try on the Triumphs or Hurricanes and go with whatever feels better.
Yikes!!
Thanks. Guess I’ll need to be very careful with it and consider something else for the long slogs. I’ll take a peek at those two and the others suggested.
I will take a look at those two.
Sounds like the Kirvana 15 (on their way to me) MAY not be the ticket……
I’ll pile on and suggest the Saucony Triumph 22 as well. The latest version uses PWRRUN PB, the same foam in the current Endorphin Speed and Pros, but the shoe is aimed more at easy day cruising. If you want something firmer, try the Saucony Ride, which has PWRRUN+, which is more similar to the PWRRUN foam in the Endorphin Shift 3.
The Asics Nimbus and New Balance More shoes are also highly cushioned shoes that I find difficult to run fast in.
Thanks!
Looks like I’m just going to have to drill down and look at the details of each of these potential shoes. Crazy to think I am looking for a slow clunker shoe but that’s what I’m looking for. Well …… that while treating my legs right with some highly cushioned shoes. Thanks again!
I got to test out a pair of Brooks Glycerin Max on Tuesday. They came home with me which is more rare than not given the # of shoes I test in a year
Could be a shoe to try.
Good luck
Thanks! Will add to the list.
Yo - that Brooks Glycerin MAX looks to fit the bill of what I am looking for. I read the reviews. Thanks for the lead.
Down to two …………
Brooks Glycerin MAX v.s. Saucony Hurricane 24
Thoughts?
Again- the want is a feel slow, VERY protective (knees and feet) running shoe.
I’ll answer with my standard reply.
Which one feels the best when you put them on, stand up and walk around? That typically/most often will be the one that feels the best when running. If you put on a shoe, stand up and think nope then it’s a nope.
The Hurricane is a stability shoe while the Glycerin Max is a neutral shoe. That may be a factor for you to consider or it may not.
I’ve often found people who are mild pronators can go to neutral shoes (foam density is same front to back and side to side) while neutral runners sometimes feel “weird” for lack of a better term in stability shoes since they can often feel the stability features
Hope that helps!
