Saris M2 Smart Trainer vs Tacx Flow Smart

I’m looking at finally getting a smart trainer for this winter to do Zwift and Fulgaz. Can anyone compare the Saris M2 Smart Trainer vs Tacx Flow Smart for me. Or for that matter recommend another one. Don’t think i want to pay for a direct drive.

Thanks,

There’s DCRainmaker’s trainer guide from last year, and looking at the date, I’m guessing it’s due for a refresh soon.

I’d take a look around at used direct drive trainers if you want to stay in that general price range, especially if you have an old bike/the space to dedicate to it. A first generation direct drive trainer will likely be quieter than a recent wheel on trainer and the ability to jump on the bike and go (vs check the tire pressure, adjust the tightness, do a spin down) is huge for usability. The quality of the resistance adjustment is also huge (I had a kickr snap and moved to a Hammer H1 when they were clearing them out for $500ish a few years ago).

Hey there, I ride a Kickr, but was looking for a value smart trainer for my 11 year old daughter.

I settled on the Smart Flow. Zero issues with it, yeah power doesn’t go as high, can’t simulate the hills as high, wheel on, etc. but does exactly what it is supposed to.

Zero regrets.

All that said, if you are more serious, I’d second the poster above to look for direct drive. Much easier not dealing with wheel swaps and trainer tires.

Thanks for the suggestion. So far the no direct drive nearby, but will keep a lookout. Some used Tacx wheel on stuff but for the price difference I figure I might as well get new.

I bought hers from bike tires direct I think closer to Christmas. Was on sale actually. Unsure if that is common or not.

Plot twist. I was planning on waiting until the big sales near American Thanksgiving but looks like my wife is away for the weekend, which means steaks and some shopping for me. Will check out what the LBS has in stock tomorrow.
