Saris bones rack - removing straps

I’ve had my bones rack for a few years and I’d like to remove some of the extra retaining straps when I’m not carrying 2 or 3 bikes - the straps that secure the bike to the rack not the ones that secure the rack to the car. It looks like they should slide out to the side with a little help. I’ve tried using a lot of help and can’t get any of them to budge. Am I missing something? Is there a trick to getting them out or are they not removable and I’m fighting a losing battle.

I’ve only taken the seat tube strap off on mine; there are bulges on the strap that stop it from coming out accidentally or when not in use. You should be able with a little force to pull it out. For the top tube straps I’m not sure if those come off, I don’t have my rack to look at now - the folks at Saris are super helpful so just give them a call and they’ll let you know.
