Sarah Reinertsen (1)

I missed the Nightline episode last night. Did anyone happen to record it and want to share? Please PM me if you do.

Also, is Sarah an STer? She definitely needs to get on board so she can receive all of our cyber-adoration. I know from previous threads that some STers know her. If you do, try recruiting her to the ST family. It would be great to get her views and it would be terrific to read her Kona RR.

In light of the recent heated thread on taking accountability for your message, this will show where I stand.

I did see it but did not record it. Great story, and awesome job finishing.

Chi-tri, you should know that the only way we here at slowtwitch compel someone to post is by ridiculing and badmouthing them. here’s a list of people who have logged on just to defend themselves: Simon Lessing, Bjorn Andersson, Clint Lien, Desiree Ficker, Lisa Bentley (ok, she wasn’t defending herself, but we still managed to get her on here…once), Joanna Zeiger, and Steve Larsen.

Personally with that track record, I think we should start harrassing Angelina Jolie, maybe she’ll log on and post!

If Sarah were here some of our group would accuse her of being a slacker and poser sincer she didn’t go under 12h, or whatever the current testosterone induced underachiever time limit is.

Oh, and I look forward to the thread where someone tries to tell her she would have faster transitions if she left her shoes clipped in on the bike.

The only reason Sarah might join here is to become part of Team ShortTwitch.

imagine the hub bub if she somehow mysteriously found herself using, say, Powercranks. Or some such device. People would post out of the woodwork…that would be bound to get her attention.

That is a sad commentary on ST. As was pointed out already, most of the flaming is ridiculous, irrational, baseless and flat out ignorant.

I believe she has used powercranks. I believe it was said she got a hang of them very quickly.

but can she credit her finishing this year…and more importantly her marathon split…to using Powercranks?

She doesn’t have to, we will do it for her.

Honestly, this board has way too many negative people … I don’t want Sarah here. I don’t want this place to sour any of her enthusiasm.

I don’t want her to have to read the anonymous attacks on about he she gets too much TV coverage, about how NBC’s coverage focused more on her than Faris, someone asking to see her naked, etc.

I would love for her to come here and talk about her experiences. But, really, inviting her here is like asking her to come hang out with the guys in the shower and/or locker room. We like her too much to do that.

Hope this doesn’t sounf too, but it’s how I feel.

“someone asking to see her naked, etc.”

Do you think that’s possible?

Yeah, she should stay away. Her seat was too high anyway.

You beat me to it
.

She is around at a lot of big races. I met her at WF this last year and chatted with her for awhile after the race (I don’t know if she race). She was very energetic and great to talk to.

Oh, she usually has matching toe nail polish, very cute.

I think Sarah’s accomplishment was awesome. Awe-inspiring. But what about the others who are very similar to her that don’t get all the glory she gets? I read that last year at IMWI (I think) a women with a similar amputation finished and finished well (not sure if she was the first ever woman to do so). She didn’t qualify for Kona, though, and she was cool with that. Trust me, I’m not trying to flame here and start the lottery vs. qualifying argument. Just think that there are a lot of people overcoming adversity to do this race–some physical, many others battling life itself. Sarah, if you read this, i think you’re awesome. If we’re gonna give credit to Sarah, we shouldn’t ignore people in VERY similar situations who have done the same thing at a different (i.e. non-KONA) race. some just have corporate sponsors/backing while others have kids.

and yes, i do believe my name is attached to my account.

It’s unrealistic to think that we can collectively recognize every athlete for every accomplishment. Yes, many people do incredible things, and often individuals are selected as a representation of a larger group to illuminate these feats. I don’t think the focus on Sarah is entirely about Sarah, as much as it is to draw attention to the potential of challenged athletes and what they can accomplish. This doesn’t strike me as a Karnazes Ultrarunner PR machine overhyped event - which no doubt helped to sell his book - but more of a Human Interest story, in the truest sense of the words. Every athlete and challenged individual can be inspired by the spirit she represents.

I think Sarah’s accomplishment was awesome. Awe-inspiring. But what about the others who are very similar to her that don’t get all the glory she gets? **That is not Sarah’s fault, of course. Sarah’s accomplishments don’t diminish any else’s including those of us who don’t face the same obstacles as she does. If Sarah were to “speak” here, she seems like the type who would applaud everyone for getting involved in triathlon. Her message is universal. ** **** I read that last year at IMWI (I think) a women with a similar amputation finished and finished well (not sure if she was the first ever woman to do so). **** **Reinertsen’s web site doesn’t claim that she’s first in the IM - only that she’s the first amputee woman to do IMKona. ** **** She didn’t qualify for Kona, though, and she was cool with that. I would love to hear Sarah’s take on all of this. These are interesting issues. I too wondered how Sarah qualified for Kona. And I wouldn’t hesitate to ask her. The problem with some posts on ST, as “stageracer” so eloquently pointed out, is the lack of civility and courtesy. There is no reason Reinertsen couldn’t explain how she qualified and **shed light on more inspirational stories that we wouldn’t necessarily know of. **
