So, this is very picky and somewhat sissy. I am racing IMCDA and am just wondering how sandy your feet get from running on the beach to T1.
Do you dump water to clean them? Is it a big deal?

T1 bags are lined up in a grassy section between beach and change tent. I think that run through the grass was enough to clean most of the sand off. Put a small bottle of water and a small towel in your T1 bag if you are really concerned. Inside of the tent is grass and kind of wet from everyone else dripping, so it would be no big deal to clean off any remaining sand.
Its not a big deal, but throw a small towel in your T1 bag if this is a concern for you. My guess is you’ll have bigger fish to fry than a little sand on your feet.
Be prepared to deal with sand on your feet, like they said water bottle and towel in T1 bag, but you need to learn not to worry too much about it. The goal is to have those shoes be comfortable for 5 or 6 hours on the bike. If a little sand gets in, so what? Clean it out after the race. Worst possible scenario: you need to get new insoles. Too much sand inside your shoes would get old after 6 hours so yeah keep it out. But don’t go OCD on it. It would add unnecessary time to your T1.
OMFG.
please be sure to self seed yourself towards the back.

its actually quicksand - if you don’t run fast across it, you’ll sink to your death. Be careful.
And you’ll get sand in your ironmuffin. And ya ain’t seen nothin till you get sand in your muffin, then you’re sure to be changin your ways!
I hate sand. In a perfect world beaches would be soft velvety grass or something, not sand that sticks to your feet and gets on your towel and in other interesting places.
I hate sand.
Now that that’s out of the way, I recall the sand on the beach at CDA being a gravelly sort of sand that didn’t do much sticking to my feet, and by the time I got to my bike I was pretty much sand free without any special effort.
You guys should spend less time making fun of ppl on here and more time training.
The water was so cold last year I bought some AWESOME Blue Seventy swim socks (it was legal), no sand on my feet from wearing them. Otherwise, the grass is usually pretty long and green so it is like running through a boot brush and it knocks off most of the sand & don’t waste more time stressing about it. Focus on the other details like having all your gear working and ready to roll, relaxing, pacing, your nutrition…and most of all…enjoying the fun of this race.
I did the race last year and the sand wasn’t an issue. You’ll be fine. Good luck!
Bullshit. With all the time I’ve saved over the years not taking A footbath in T1 I can do both.

Here I am practicing the technique I will use to avoid the sandy feet problem, as I hate it too.
Call me a sissy too - I hate sand or gravel in my shoes. I have a bike water bottle in T1 that I squirt onto my feet before I put my shoes on. The comfort factor far outweighs those whopping 3 seconds it takes to squirt.
