I have recently purchased a new road bike from my lbs. the lbs only carries speedplay pedals. i would like to try out these pedals but not sure if i want the expense of another pair of shoes and pedals right now. i currently use look keo pedals on my tri bike and i spent the money to have it fit to me with the shoes. i don’t want to make any adjustments to my shoes for several reasons. i can’t go back and ask this question to the original bike fitter because he is no longer with the lbs and i am not confident that the new bike fitter is as knowledgeable. the new fitter says its ok to use the same shoe, but with all the fine tuning we did on my shoes originally I’m not sure. i do know that the geometry of both bikes are different so wouldn’t i want my foot in a different position on the road bike compared to the tri bike. so i am putting it out here for suggestions. do you have separate shoes for your road bike or do you use the same shoes for road bike and tri bike?
I would go online and buy another set of look pedals. Problem solved
Use the same type of pedals on your road and tri bike.
I have road and tri shoes, but keep the same pedal system (Speedplay X-series) on both. This way I can switch shoes between bikes (ex. do training rides on my tri bike in road shoes), and I don’t have to alternated between clip-in/release motions of two pedal systems.
I use the same pedals in all my bikes - various flavores of Crank Bros. The main reason is a pair of insulated winter shoes/boots that I use for road / cross and MTB in the winter. They are heavan compared to booties…
Also means I can use any shoe in any bike - for instance if a do a century ride I can pop on the bike in my mountain shoes and have a much more walkable shoe to spend 20-30 minutes in aid stations with my co-workers
When I bought my last bike, I wanted Speedplays so I could use the same shoes on multiple bikes, but the shop didn’t carry them (although they did carry Look). I just went to another shop and bought the pedals. I brought them into the shop that I bought the bike from, and they put them on when we did my fitting. It was no big deal.
I’ve never seen a shop that only carries one brand of pedals. Is it a small specialty shop?
With that said I would stick with one pedal brand. Look Keo and Speedplay are both good products.
Personally I use the Performance bike brand of Keo pedals. I like their carbon team version and they can be had for a great price.
Agree with your concerns on the bike fit. Stack height and cleat positioning on the shoes might be a little different to have the same position of the foot.
Love speedplay, but nothing wrong with the ones you have either, so just go get another set of pedals and put them on.
ok so what i am gathering here is all the time we spent on my cleats when i got my bike fit which was about the same time as setting up the bars and seat does not matter when i go to a new bike. so if i buy another set of look pedals and take my new bike in with my tri shoes the cleat position will be the same for the new bike fit even both bikes have different geometry. i only ask this because thats kind of what the new fitter was saying and this is why i don’t trust him yet. i have a iron distance tri coming up and don’t want to mess anything up with my tri bike because it seems perfect right now.
I use same shoe/pedal combination on my road and tri bike.

Your cleat position will be the same because your feet and shoes haven’t changed. Things like your seat and handlebars will be adjusted around that, assuming that your cleats were properly positioned on that first fitting.
Also, your post is really hard read.
yes i kind of assumed it was a hard read thats why i necomented to try and clarify. i was more worried about the shoe fit than going with different pedals. i do want to try out the speedplay but only if i was going to have to buy another pair of shoes for the road bike. i appreciate all the comments from everyone i bought another pair of look pedals and rode the bike today for 20 miles.
