He had a mechanical so not really a fair comment without context
Half way done and we still have a lead pack of 4. The Long chase group has now swallowed Mc and is 7 strong 3:57 back. Foley is charging to make that chase group only 22 seconds off the back of group, should catch by the next timing mat. He has been the big mover making up 1 min on the lead, did he burn his biscuits to get to the chase group? If he’s smart he’ll settle in behind them for a bit and enjoy the draft.
How many KQ here for the pros?
I think men have 3 slots
Correct 3 for each and Svenningsson is the only one with a KQ already.
Lead 4 holding strong. Chase group is 3:45 back. Foley has caught and moved mid chase pack in 8th. Hoel, Davis and McElroy have been dropped into a 2nd chase pack a minute back of the main chase.
Svenningsson with a crash and out of the race. Front tire got stuck in a crack at 50kph and threw him off his bike. Hip sore but looks in decent shape. Already KQ fortunately.
Looks like Guilllox also still with them. They are finally making inroads cutting the gap to 3:15.
Thanks for the updates. I did not realize this is the race day thread!
Figured this was good enough! Eric is out here too taking pics.
How many miles left on the bike? Enough room to narrow that gap down to under 2 minutes??
Less than 37/60k. They have narrowed it solidly in just the last 10ish miles so the next timing mat will be telling. If they keep up the recent closing they could get it down to a very narrow gap.
They are around 85 miles in
At 85m/136k the lead 4 have maintained their pack and have been swapping the lead. In the past 10 miles/16k the chase pack has taken another 8 second back but still sitting 3:06 back. The chase also hasn’t broken up farther with 4 still in it.
We finally have movement with the front group breaking up. Kanute and Koolhaus have broken away at 99/150k with Salvisburg 45 and Lewis 51 back.
The chase group has also lost some time falling back to 3:28 but the group is still intact.
If Salvisburg and Lewis don’t work together that chase group will get close and the podium opens up for the start of the run.
Impressed so far with Kanute on the heels of Marbella.
Matt Mac DNF’s in his final pro race w/ sickness. I find his journey to triathlon pretty cool. Enjoy whatever you do in the next phase of life!
Final mat before T2 and Koolhaas and Kanute holding strong, 10 miles/16k to go.
Salvisberg 1:41 back
Lewis 2:31
The chase group is still 3:25 back and holding together. They should swallow up at least Lewis.
