Salted bananas and other tri food

Yes, I do like to salt a banana if it’s getting a bit too sweet for me.

I also have found a couple of uses for whey protein, since I don’t like the stuff, but do appreciate ensuring my protein intake is sufficient: I have added it to pancake mix, which works just fine (about 1/3 whey protein, I think - don’t blame me if it turns out to be too much); also in Indian curried noodles it can acquire a texture somewhere between tofu and lentils, and works rather nicely there. Smaller amounts can up the protein content of chinese noodle soup, with minimal suffering.

I’ve been making up my own version of e-load at 10% of the price - make no mistake, this is a superior product, but it is non-cheap - dextrose powder from a brewing supplies store is amazingly cheap, as is generic koolaid-type strawberry flavouring. My version does taste a little bit on the salty side, thanks to my inability to lay my hands on sodium citrate. The other nice ingredients - K, Mg, Ca - are, hopefully in the rest of my diet. There does need to be some sucrose (regular sugar) too, otherwise dextrose doesn’t taste very sweet and it’s hard to convince yourself that it’s still there!

I mostly don’t like (but can stand) protein Powerbars and the like, but the Canadian Safeway store has a nice own-brand line that is actually kind of satisfying.

My favourite smoothie is one that comes in a bottle from Bolthouse Farms, called Green Goodness - initially recommended to me as a great recovery drink - though the ultimate recovery drink, especially after a long open water swim is…of course… chocolate milk.

Usually I don’t like chocolate milk - just in those circumstances it seems to hit a spot - otherwise give me regular (2% or 3 and 1/2%) milk and either fig newtons or digestive cookies - but you’re probably all skinnier than me.j
