I have a Scott Plasma and am looking for a saddlebag for behind the seat. The problem is that the seat is set up near the front of the seat post, so that I have a piece of the bike post sticking back where a normal saddle bag would be. Any suggestions on what to get (without moving the seat)? I don’t need a rear hydration system, I just want a bag off the back.
This image is not my bike, but shows the seat piece. Imagine the seat is all the way forward on the clamp.
I still use a normal saddle bag, but I always cut off the front seatpost velco and just use the rear loops around rails. it hangs vertically rather than horizontally. the front Velcro removal I have done for years, as it otherwise puts holes in my shorts from abrasion.
Yep, my wife and I haev the same bike. How much crap do you carry? Two or one tube, two or one CO2? I have a couple of different packs and I’ll check when I get home. I have a small one for one tube, CO2, and quick stick that I race with. Fits great and attaches on rails and the velcro is long enough to go around stem. It fits up above the seat post and under the seat.
I have two other packs, one sucks and one works pretty well for carrynig 2 of everything.
Also, how far forward are your seat rails. My bike is not anything like the pic. I have the black seat post clamp all the way forward and my saddles rails in the middle of the seat. This causes more the the back part of the seat post part to stick out even farther, which pushes right into the pack with the spares. Not sure if this makes sense. the tip of my seat is still 2CM behind the BB.
Ill check tonight
One other thing, I have the ISP, which looks smaller than the pic. My wife has a newer plasma with the adjustable seat post, again the seat post looks smaller than the pic. I assume that is a premium in pic, not sure if the seat post is bigger than on the plasma 10s
I’d like to be able to carry two tubes, two CO2s, and a few other small tools. I have a small bag on it right now with one tube, one CO2, and the tools, but it moves around because I can’t fasten it tightly.
As far as the position of the seat, the seat clamp is almost all the way forward on the seat post. And, the seat clamp is attached to the actual seat near the back of the seat. So, I don’t have room to move the seat post clamp back, but the seat forward to compensate. I think my position is similar to yours, where the seat post tip really sticks out the back.
I have a decent size bag and with my seat way forward I run into this problem a bit. I just use the post strap to hold the bottom in place and the rail straps are tight. Is it ugly looking? Yes. Are there much cleaner behind the seat bag set ups on other bikes? For sure or fer sure if you are Canadian.
I really don’t give a crap how it looks or sits as long as it’s not moving. fwiw I have 2 tubes, 4co2, 1 1 co2 adaptor, 2 levers, somewhere between $6-8 and an old DL plus a piece of paper with ICE #'s.
Per the previous poster, the Speedpack 483 is another option for storage on the plasma. Fyi, when mounted correctly, our pack is rock solid on your top tube. No slipping or twisting.
Try a scicon bag. It attaches to the seat rails and is held in place by friction. This allows you to place the bag even on the diagonal-vertical running portion of the rails. I just put a scicon on my Scott Foil (which doesn’t have the issue you have here) and find it to be a great bag.
Seat slammed. The saddle bag is the one that came with my old bike from Nytro Multisport. It has two velcro straps that go over the saddle rails, and a velcro loop around the post. I do lose a little room from the seat piece that sticks out the back, but it’s easy enough to squeeze everything in. You just have to put it on the left and right of that post.
I carry one tube, two 16g CO2, CO2 adapter, crack pipe, patch kit, quick link, multi-tool, two pedro’s tire levers, and have enough room for the Di2 battery to fit into the pocket that is inside the rear flap. Without the battery I’m sure I could fit a second tube.
I use a pouch that comes from a fuel belt. I use a zip tie through the straps ( that would normaly attach the bag to the fuel belt) and through the rails and it works great. I tube two CO2 2 levers.
