I have sore in the crevice of my leg and scrotum. Its been sticking around for a few weeks. I recently bumped my bike time up and I ride my trainer most of time. I used this saddle in the past with no problems. Is it time for a new saddle? Or any other adjustments I can make? Its on my right side. I have been using bag balm on every ride and zinc oxide post ride.
I had a similar issue recently when I droppped saddle height. Once I moved it back up, I had less bunching of my shorts and irritation of the area. The other thing that worked was wearing tighter shorts. Less movement of the fabric to abrade on the skin.
Also try coconut oil several times a day.
When I had a similar issue, I noticed it was a particular pair of bibs where the stitching on the chamois had frayed or come up a little and the pad was now hitting that spot. I used a hydrocortizone cream and mentholatum in combination and it was all but gone in about a week – with no riding during that time. Then I ditched those shorts and haven’t had a problem since.
Let that thing heal up even at the expense of staying off the bike for a couple of days and try lowering your saddle by just a smidge. By all means, use chamois creme and when you’re done with the workout, get out of those clothes and clean up. It might be worth having another towel ready to be sure the crotch area is really well dried up. Saddle sores can be really stubborn. Good luck.
This is sometimes just part of bike training. You start putting in big miles and you can get weird sore patches periodically like this. They tend to go away over time. I usually get them the most at the beginning of a new season when I am wearing new bibs that my body is not used to. You can try chamois cream, and this might help. but really it should improve on your recovery days.
Now certainly you should double-check your bike fit as it is possible you are sitting at an angle, which is putting more pressure on one side of your crotch. But sometimes, no amount of bike fit will prevent this from happening completely.
Same thing happened to me last spring. I knew it wasn’t chaffing. Felt more like a boil or cyst. Stayed off the bike for a bit. Warm compresses and gentle massage seemed to disperse whatever fluid had built up (if that’s what it was) and I was good to go in about a week.
try some anti-pimple cream on it. 2-3x a day.
Well it went away last Wednesday-Sunday…I had no issues the bump disappeared but Monday AM it reared its ugly head. What gives? Should something like this keep coming back?
Yes, they come back if you don’t take care of them. A few tips:
- Always get out of your sweaty exercise clothes immediately after working out and get into the shower
- After the shower, dry thoroughly and use some sort of astringent or alcohol to clean the affected area
- Cover the area with AD Ointment
- repeat the cleaning / ointment 2x per day (Assuming you work out in the morning, clean it again before bed)
This should take care of it in a few days. Once it clears up, continue to use the AD Ointment after showering when you are putting in a lot of hours on the bike.
Try some different shorts? A slight variation in the pad can make a big difference.
I did get lazy over the week-end and not put any ointment after my ride and at bedtime. Also, I will soon be out on the road and won’t sweat as much on the bike. I am sure this isn’t helping.
have you tried the ISM seats? They really helped me
I ride an ISM racing saddle (on a road bike), have stepped up my bike mileage recently and have two wonderfully painful saddle sores on each side…
Keep it clean and dry as much as you can, especially at night when you’re sleeping/inactive. Saddle sores (also called furuncles) are like painful pimples. They can hang around, especially if they’re warm and moist and coated in bacteria. I have them most of the warmer season, and have never found a silver bullet.
I made it 2 weeks without it coming back. But then it came back again in the exact same spot. Do you think a MD is in order?
