I keep my seat nose tilted down quie a bit on my ri bike. On my mountain and road bikes they are both down a bit as well. I was told by someone today that all my bikes fit wrong and that none of the pros do this.
So, if I tilt mine up to level I can’t feel my penis after a while and it puts some odd pressure on my grapes. I was told by the doctor that did my vasectomy that I have a large sack (if only woman were impressed by that)
So the question is, does it matter? I mean I know if you tilt down too low you start feeling like you are sliding off, but I’m not there and I am comfy.
If it is the fit wrong, what part? what fixes that?
In general for a man the nose of the saddle is level w/ the tail when you bike is fit properly (possibly slightly nose down or up). If you do not have a proper bike fit and a seat that works w/ your anatomy, you may find yourself tilting the seat excessively down. If tilting the seat down is not causing you any issues, than I would not worry too much about it. However, a large degree of nose down will cause you to move forward on the saddle and you will find yourself holding back w/ your arms. this may cause other issues.
what someone told you is generally correct. a good saddle that is comfortable for you and fits your anatomy should be nearly level, not substantially tilted up or down, even on a tri bike. and yes, no fast pros’ bikes that i have seen have a significantly tilted up/down saddle.
and nearly all the other people i have seen riding with a highly tilted down saddle were correcting for another common problem: their saddle was way too high. if you are getting pain with a level saddle, you need to address some other fit issues. often (but not always), you need to lower your saddle, get a different saddle, or both …
I would like to add that it is quite often necessary to rotate the saddle to the right or left slightly. This will be a little bit of trial and error but there will be a noticable change in comfort when the rotation is on the right side. This will move the crotch pressure to the adductor muscles and they are much more tolerant of the pressures. I suggest level for the seat to slightly nose high combined with rotation. A downward tilted nose puts a lot of pressure on the neck and shoulders.
I agree…all of my saddles are rotated to the right about 3/4 - 1 inch (off of center line of the top tube). Makes a huge difference in comfort. Plus, it reduces the probability that my sack o’ grapes will hurt and my penis will go numb.
