I’ve been using the Silca Asymmetrico for a few years and I’m finally ready to find something else. I love Silca, their products are awesome, but this bag isn’t working for me. It always ends up rolling over and dangling off my saddle rails. I’ve packed it pursuant to their instructions, but no luck.
Nevertheless, does anyone have a saddle bag recommendation that I can take on pretty hard gravel rides and that won’t bounce off?
I too am a big Silca fan and have used their Seat Capsule Premio for several years without it ever coming off the rails. It holds two CO2 cartridges plus the regulator, tire levers, valve core tool, spare derailleur battery, spare derailleur hangar and a Wolf Tooth multi-tool. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat if this one ever failed. Oh, and one last thing that my better half taught me; take a candle and rub it along both sides of the zipper while the bag is open and before using it for the first time. It makes opening and closing the zipper super smooth even in muddy conditions.
Big fan or Leadout’s mini handlebar bag. Frees up seatpost real estate for the garmin radar and fender if need be.
I have a topeak backloader and like it a lot.
There’s different sizes and each one can expand or roll down depending on how much you fill it with gear.
You do have to tighten it a bit to avoid swinging left and right. I haven’t lost the bag yet

We don’t make any saddle bags (yet), but we do have a wide range of top tube packs (with zero rolling, slipping, or sliding–ever) that might fit your needs.

My son and I are big fans of your TT bags on our gravel machines! That’s after trying an Apidura as well as an Arundel tt bag.
I’ve been using the medium sized Speedsleev bag on my gravel bike for a few years and been very happy with it. Holds everything I need for most rides, looks nice and tidy on the bike, and has never moved or come loose while riding.
I’ve had great luck with my Asymmetrico.
I like the Arundel medio. Easy to put on and take off. Durable. Spacious. Clean design.
have the Lezyne micro caddy.
It has a very wide velcro strap that secures to the seat rails, it’s very secure and isn’t going anywhere.
Just fwiw, if you like everything else about the bag you already have you can solve this problem by running a toe strap or a voile strap around the bag and the rails in addition to the boa. Inexpensive, works like a charm.
I just did exactly that - hopefully it holds up! I appreciate the suggestion.
Appreciate the question and this thread, looking at doing the Katy Trail in Missouri, a little over 200 mile gravel trail and been wondering what to consider for saddle bags. Great suggestions and tips all around!
The Silca bags drove me crazy with flipping open and dumping stuff. I had the Asymmetrico and the larger one before it. Both were awful on a few different bikes.
My favorite is the Rocket Pocket Plus be Velocolour. https://www.velocolour.com/shop/rocket-pocket-2gnpb I have the 35, but don’t pack a lot of stuff. Multi tool, c02, small head, two levers, small tube, and a couple of tiny items. The quick access feature is really nice for stuff you want to access without taking the whole thing off, like a tire plug or maybe a lever to help somebody with a flat. It doesn’t budge, moves bike to bike easily, and it’s high quality. The 35 isn’t too big and doesn’t stick out much. I could take a picture and add it later. I think the 45 would be a solid choice to have a little more capacity.
