Sable Goggle colors

I’m planning to bite on a pair of Sables, but can’t decide on color. I’m only going to get one pair at this time, and use them for racing. If you wear them, what color do you prefer for vision clarity in OW swims?

I have a rather high nose bridge, so a lot of goggles don’t fit comfortably. At this time I’m using TYR Velocity metallized clear goggles. Do the Sables have a similar nose clearance?

Thanks!

sorry I didn’t see your post sooner. any of the 101MT model should do you well in open water swimming. MT = mirrored tint. The 101ST model is the standard tint version with no mirror coating.

As for nose-bridges, we added a fourth nose bridge earlier this year, but all four sizes have rather high clearance. Feel free to PM me if you want.

cheerios,
Paul

Blue is the most popular color, followed by gold. At the risk of making myself feel less special, green is the least popular color, and is my personal favorite because it’s something that I never see on any other goggles. It’s the most unique. But I usually wear gold for racing because it matches my wetsuit. Hi-tech, I know…

Seriously, all Sable tints are relatively the same from the inside looking out in my experience.

I have these really cool ones that have ears and plastic gills attached to make me look like the creature form the black lagoon. I would wear them at the NYC tri but have a feeling no one would no any differance there when I came out the water.

I have the purple MT ones that I use to race (and use for most of my pool workouts too) I got the blue ST but don’t wear them nearly as much.

I bought the blue MT today. Can’t wait for them to arrive.

Funny, I ordered green b/c it is my favorite color. I considered gold, though. They’ve been on backorder, so I haven’t gotten them yet. Good to hear that it doesn’t make a difference.

Oh, and I ordered them in mirror tint.

They are the best goggles hands down! Give us a try next time you need a pair.

Cheers,

Does anyone know if they are available through an australian distributor? Or purely an os purchase?

I finally received my Sables! It took awhile. Anyway, the nose bridge is plenty high enough and the visibility is everything they are pumped up to be. I do find that they dig into my eye orbit next to my nose more than I’m used to, and it can become quite uncomfortable after about an hour. It takes several hours for the dent to go away.

Anyone else have this issue? Any fixes?

X2! The visibility is fantastic but the gasket digs onto my eye socket and grabs my face in a way that’s incredibly painful after only about 40 min. I’ve tried loosening the strap but that didn’t fix the problem. Its very disappointing as both Slowman’s review and the promo material from Sable suggested these goggles would be really comfortable. For me at least, they are definitely not so!

Just did my first swim in Sable’s…Minimal leakage so it’s a win. Awesome visibility and a high quality product all the way around. I noticed a little discomfort along the lines of what’s already been mentioned but I hope playing with different bridges will help.

I have two pairs of the reds and my wife has the blues. The red and blue look the same from the inside. The blue matched her wetsuit and the red mine.

Yes, I found it disappointing too. I might wear them for racing for the visibility, but I’m not sure if I’d want to for IM. I’ve tried different strap tightness also, but they kind of bury into my eye socket. The nose bridge seems to be the right size, but I wonder whether a different size would help?

Color me forgetful, but what is the difference in visibility, etc between the standard and mirrored tints?

Bob

according to Rappstar, no difference. Just for looks.

Glad to hear that you like them, but it sounds like your and H2O Girl need a bit of fit tweaking. Sight unseen, this does sound like what happens when the nose-bridge is too small. This also happens with a certain facial anatomy where the outside of the eyesocket tapers back, thus the outside edge of the lens sits farther back and causes the other ends of the lenses to push into the side of your eye orbit next to your nose.
We did introduce a fourth nose-bridge size (extra large**) as the small, medium, and large nose bridges were really more like extra-small, small, and medium. Just think of the extra-large as a large and thus no fretting over your nose size. I’m sure your noses are all finely proportioned sniffers.

There was a bit of inventory still floating out there that had only the 3 original sizes. So, if you, or anyone else for that matter, need the XL nose-bridge for your 101ST or 101MT, your retailer may have some extras. If not, you’re always welcome to email us at info@sablewateroptics.com and we’d be happy to drop one in the mail for you.

For other fit methods, I start with the straps as loose as I can possibly get them and then start taking it in a bit at a time, but it sounds like you’ve already worked that angle. Adjusting the straps up or down on the back of your head does help with fit also when the lenses push too much at the top or bottom of the orbit of your eye. Again, this doesn’t sound like what either of your are experiencing.

As a final fit attempt, some folks go with the 922 model lens seal on the 101 lens. But that’s a story for another day. Time to go home now…

not quite… in a nutshell:
the 101ST have Standard Tints and let in much more light.
the 101MT have Mirrored Tints that let in less light.

The mirror models are all based on the light smoke tinted lens of the 101ST with smoke lenses. True, they all look pretty much the same from the inside, but there are some subtle differences. The emerald mirrored 101MT, when looking into bright sun, has an incredible crispness that somehow outcrisps the crispiness of the blue, gold, and fuchsia mirror lenses every so slightly. Personal preference appears to be the way most folks select their lens colors. I go with blue mirror because that’s the only mirror lens we offer in prescription strengths.

I thought I’d give your idea a try today at the pool, but I’m having trouble removing the nose bridge that is currently in place. Have you got any suggestions? I feel like I’m going to break it if I pull harder.

I’ve been using the medium/large bridge, so that only leaves me the large/extra-large option. My eyes are notoriously close together, so it is really weird to be on the big end of the spectrum here.

Thanks!
