Who are the reputable fitters in this area? I don’t want to start a war. Just post up who you know of or have used.

Chris at Element Multisport will meet your needs if you can come down to chi town. His shop can be found in the retailer link above.
I used Exclusive Cycles for both my TT and road bikes. It was one of the best experiences I have had in years. They are located in the Madison area.
Another option in Madison is Cronometro. Good shop, good people.
PM me if you have any questions about them.
.
I looked at Cronometro–like I said I don’t want to start a war, BUT $290 for a tri fit? That seems a bit excessive. That is around $100 higher than most places I have checked. It begs the question of why?

A second on the Cronometro recommendation.

x3. In this case, you get what you pay for…plan on 4 hours.

Yep, but like some of the other replies, you really get what you pay for. Expect 3-4 hours for the initial fit. If after the fit, something doesn’t feel right after riding 10-20 hours, they’ll help you out with the adjustments.
They take care of their clients, and if you buy a bike from them after getting a fitting, you get some credit for the bike.
It’s really up to you, only you can decide if that is in your budget, but we’ve already got several people saying that the extra $ is well spent.

Trek of highland park. www.mytrekstore.com They have the retul fit system.
Re: Cronometro
What wavedog and the other poster said. A tri fit was my introduction to Crono six years ago; I was back to buy a bike shortly after.
Their great service keeps me there.
And while I did not buy my wife’s road bike from Colin, she did go to Crono to have it fit to her. It was her first “real” road bike and she was a bit intimidated by the prospect of some bike guy critiquing and moving her around on a bike. Colin was very thoughtful and absolutely gracious throughout the process.
Of course, you get to decide where the value lies for you.
I am not opposed to spending the money. I guess I wonder what they bring to the table that no one else does. I’ll do more checking. Thanks for the replies. If anyone wants to PM me further feel free.

Let there be no question that a trip to Get a Grip’s fit studio is worth the drive. They have the best ability to position you on their fit systems - stock with dozens of handlebar/stem/shifter combo’s to dial everything in perfect…and if you have the wrong bike for you they will let you know too.
I would second Get a Grip. Just about every good Chicago area triathlete I know (including at least four pros that I can think of) goes there for all their bike needs, and enthusiasticly spreads the word.
By the way, Chris, love your Quote! I may have to steal it for myself.
I highly recommend Get A Grip. I’ve had 2 bikes fit there, one for a 400 mile bike tour in Colorado and a one for the Lake Stevens 70.3 Ironman. I wouldn’t trust my fits with any one else.
I didn’t make it up. I stole it as well.

Another vote for Crono in Madison. Colin is the owner and primary fitter and is a great guy. Well worth the money.
Also, as someone who used to work in a shop and does nearly all my own bike work, the mechanics at Crono are the only ones in the area I would allow to touch my bikes.
Kevin
I’ll put in a vote for David Kohli. david@perfectcirclecycling.
He was one of the original guys at Cronometro. Did fittings there.
He’s Serotta certified and keeps up on fitting science.
He still lives in the neighborhood in works out of his home.
Differentiator: He’s working on his pHD in biomechanics at the UW to be applied directly to bike fitting and performance.
You’d get every bit of service that you’d get a crono but probably not the $290 fee.
Just a thought.
GAG in Chicago is worth the drive; I’ve been fit for three bikes now for road, touring and tri. Obviously all of these bikes are different animals but all fit like a glove. Adam and Kevin keep me coming back for the fits, the mechanics keep me coming back for service and the brands they carry keep me coming back for the bikes; if they don’t have it, you don’t want it.
