What’s up with that guy? Yesterday he called himself the greatest and tonight he chocked and lost the lead and cost Phelps a gold medal. I like him as a swimmer but the douchebag comments he makes drives me crazy. Is it just me?
i wasn’t upset with the comments, it shows that he has extreme confidence in yourself, which you have to have to succeed at that level. i would bet that a good majority of successful olympic athletes at that level think that way, but don’t express it.
all that being said, you can’t say that 1 day and then come back the next day and blow a pretty significant lead in that relay
agree-think you’d have to think that way, doesn’t bother me-plus, he’s been working his ass off, took no time off and did not gain 25lbs.
Well, it seems to me that the biggest problem is that Phelps seems out of shape or being sick or something. He got 2 with a lot of luck last Olympics so maybe he turned out of luck.

Lochte seems to be a nice guy atleast in the interviews i have heard and probably will take some more goldmedals
i don’t think Phelps is out of shape-he looked really well in the relay. I know he crapped out in the 400 IM, but I’m not surprised. The 400 IM is 1 of the hardest events and for the longest time he wasn’t even going to do it.
YOu have to keep in mind that Lochte is swimming the 200free, so that probably cost him many tenths. I think it was one of the reasons that Phelps scratched it, just too difficult to proceed through the heats and bomb a really fast 100, and looks like he was right. Not sure if there would have been a different outcome with Phelps anchoring, he went pretty fast going 2nd. Really great swim from the whole team though, all in the 47+'s, even Nathan leading off.
Man o man, did the Aussies ever choke or what? One thing to just get beat out, but to lose all medals when you were the overwhelming gold favorite, that has to sting…

Since you asked and the spoil is already on, it was both kind of. The french guy did the fastest split of the final i believe, only guy to go a 46+, and lochte was the slowest on our team, but still did a 47+. At one point we had about a body length lead too, but i feel the 200’s he has been doing took off his edge for sprinting and he has to be a little tired. We didn’t quite need a Lezak leg, but we need another phelps or nathan leg for that anchor… Our guys swam really well regardless, certainly out swam their on paper times. the 100 free is wide open now too, lots of aussies getting flogged tonight for sure.

Tell me about it. I woke up this morning ready to read about our men’s gold medal only to see this disaster.
On paper, the gold medal was never going the way of the USA, so if people are blaming Lochte, what would they say about Magnussen! Shame that paper goes to mush in water mind you.
